This is a pretty good way to learn French, in an immersion program. This is taught to me at college right now, and though I think I hate it at times, I have really learned a lot since I first started. The books/ videos by Pierre Capretz have to be used in conjuction, otherwise, it's not really useful.
The workbooks for FIA are indispensible. While you fortunately don't need to buy the videos (They available in streaming format at learners.org) a serious student must have the textbook, workbooks, and audio CDs. The workbooks explain the oral and aural drills on the CDs, present the dialogue of the lessons again an a more convenient format, and give essential lessons on the grammar.
Don't know if they ever fix these sort of things, but I thought I might as well try to compensate for amland123's error.
