I hated history in school. I LOVE this book. I learned so much, some of which I wish hadn't happened for me to learn about. Bode and Brock Thoene set realistic fictional characters in factual historical situations. But I thought surely, the Bonus March was part of the fiction, so I Googled it. It was disgustingly true! The horrible things our pre WWII armies did to the WWI vets, under the orders of President Hoover, carried out by MacArthur, Eisenhower and Patton, our WWII heroes and future president was deplorable and unforgivable. Nothing I learned about in school, none of my grandchildren have heard about it, nor my children, nor my friends. A must read, to learn about all the things that lead up to the march.

I have read a large majority of the Thoene's books. Shiloh Autumn just fell in place with their other works that I have read. Shiloh Autumn could be a stand alone read, but you really must read the other three Shiloh books before reading this book. Each Shilow builds up to the next and culminates with Shiloh Autumn. The setting of this book is the Fort Smith, Arkansas area during the Great Depression times. It really paints a true picture of the lives of people during this time. It is full of happy and sad times and is very inspiring. I don't want to give away the details, but you have to read it! It is excellent! I would love to see a sequel to this book in the future.
Had read the previous 3 books of the Shiloh series and loved them. This couple have beome my favorite fiction authors. Since I am from Ft. Smith Arkansas area the setting of this series was unique to me. I know of the towns and recognized the geographic research. The characters were wonderful and it was a testimony of how God sees us through hard times. I have ordered several other books by Bodie and Brock Thoene after reading the Shiloh series. Claylene
