This is the best unbiased documentary on VN that I've seen. Unlike the DVD "Letters Home From Vietnam", this tells it all, as close to the truth from the overall range of the real vets eye. From acknowledging the US underestimating of the enemy, to the frustration of not being able to follow the enemy, after they viciously attacked, then ran back across the "fence" [border], into Laos or Cambodia. This DVD has it all! The average American does not to this day realize just how close we were at winning that war. What would be considered the "Capital" of the VC's main command was finally found, about 18 miles inside Cambodia. It's destruction would have completely crippled the NVA, especially in its emaciated condition. However, that "one" unbelievable slip of the tongue, when Nixon ...out of the blue... states that we won't insert beyond 13 miles, and stopped the entire battalion ready to destroy the head of the monster...dead in their tracks! A few point platoons were almost 15 miles in, and NO ONE could fathom it. Probably the most demoralizing event of the entire [un-official]war. Aside from "Platoon", the most "realistic" Vietnam War movie made [taken from all polls of 'in country' vets], to come from Hollywood, this DVD is a must for all History buffs. It baffles me to no end when I read, "rate the movie", on "Letters Home...", where all these "school teachers" are so enamored, because, it appears, 'real' actors read the letters? Jeez! The populace is still of the erroneous belief, from the lying media, that the South didn't want us there, and we weren't doing any good...which is BullSh. If you are a teacher who were not there...I'd strongly advise THIS DVD, AND the movie "Platoon", for historical realism! Sadly, our soldiers didn't realize the villagers were always under surveillance, and almost always had a VC sympathizer living in the village. Some villages were ALL VC sympathizers, but most were not. Still, those who were not, HAD to hide ordnance and food for the VC, or be killed! Then when the US soldiers would 'find' the weapons cache, they immediately assumed the worse! And if that platoon just happened to have been in a fire fight just previous... and lost a few friends to the VC... people snapped. There were "Zippo-Raids", and villages disappeared. Again... from someone who was there, I strongly approve this DVD for historical relevance...as well as Platoon, the 'only' movie rated by VN vets for realism.Read full review
