Featuring a remarkable processing ability and a plethora of connection options, the OnkyoTC-NR809 home theater receiver offers reliable performance. There is a total of eight individual HDMI ports on the receiver. The HDMI inputs feature support for your 3D video and audio return channels. They also deliver network capability with your Ethernet line or home Wi-Fi connection. These input and output connections allow this receiver to handle every piece of equipment that makes your home theater unique.This 7.2-channel receiver also has a phono input. This allows you to connect it to your subwoofer, speakers, and turntable. This lets you enjoy the original sound of your vinyl albums with amazing clarity. You can also connect it to your television for a great home theater experience. With this Onkyo unit, you can connect the output from a Blu-ray or DVD to enhance sound effects, songs, and images. The Dolby Pro Logic audio delivers crisp, clean bass notes and treble that is free of distorted vibration. This Onkyo receiver features 135 watts per channel at 8 ohms. It has a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. This ensures that the TX-NR809 receiver picks up digital radio signals as well as analog signals. It also features FTC return channel capabilities for the two driven channels. The TX-NR809 is also capable of upscaling connected devices to 4K Ultra-HD picture quality. Witness crisp, true-to-life colors projecting brilliantly straight into the living room. Use the home network capability to stream internet radio or audio from your PC through your theater speakers. This Onkyo digital audio system features a direct digital Bluetooth connection to your iPod or iPhone. You can connect your smartphone or music accessories via the front or rear USB ports. This allows you to choose music from your MP3 player list and beam it through your home theater system. It also has a click-to-play mode, which allows you to stream music from your desktop or laptop computer. For convenience, this Onkyo product has its own apps so that you can connect your Android, iPhone, and other smartphones to it. There are few limits to what this 7.2 multichannel system can provide for your A/V experience. Control all of its functions from the convenient drop-down panel. This makes it easy to adjust between modes of operation. The remote control also allows you to adjust the volume of your component video system and to change the channels or input device. You can use the remote to control your attached audio and video equipment as well. The remote uses two standard AA batteries and operates within a 50-foot radius of the unit.The THX Select2 Plus certification of this Onkyo is primarily specified for rooms with a screen-to-seat viewing distance greater than 10 or 12 feet. This allows you to enjoy the optimal video clarity and audio immersion angle. It is also considered optimal for delivering music when the room volume is around 2,000 cubic feet. A very good product..
I brought this bad boy for my niece and she's flipping out over it but i really think she's a little scared of it , LOL ...!!! When the unit was off , i put my finger on the VCR/CBL button and at the same time i hit the power button and the unit set itself back to factory default, then i went to work on setting this rascal up.. I believe in using speakers from the same house so i byamp this unit with Polk speakers raised the level calibration numbers up and the unit came alive... I only wish Onkyo had partnered with Tunein instead of Vtuner in this unit ... Great sound with BASS , i really have no complaints ... I'm pleased because my niece is pleased ... No problems with the shipper he was true to his word ...! Good stuff

No video OR sound with DVD OR CABLE inputs through the unit!!!
Great sound when using AM and FM, but there is no picture or sound when trying to play a DVD or watch a movie, news or sports from my cable provider. I have two other Onkyo receivers and they perform just fine. I have tried contacting the "pawn shop" I purchased unit from with no success. I attempted to contact Onkyo for technical support and and they have been useless!

Great receiver after Onkyo factory fix.
The 809 is a great reciever that supports 7 channel processing once the HDMI board has been serviced. If it weren't for the HDMI board issues I would have given it 5 stars. There were HDMI board issues which onkyo is now fixing for free and has extended the warranties through the end of 2018. Note that using HDMI passthrough mode does keep the HDMI board powered when the unit is in standby so I recommend disabling it just to be safe. I have also added a 220mm laptop cooling pad fan to the top of mine to help give the HDMI board extra cooling on my AV stand.

Large, heavy, powerful receiver.
It doesn't have 4k video pass through, limited to 1080p. It is huge, and heavy. It is too large for my entertainment center. The front edge sticks out about 4 inches. The THX sound is amazing. I have hooked up to Onkyo THX certified speaker system and I am impressed. It definitely has enough power.
