If you are like me and actually listen to SACDs, DVD audio discs as well an HDCD encoded disc you know it has become harder and harder to find the optimal universal player that is less than 10 years old. This explains why the Oppos players are in such great demand in the secondary used market. So far I have been very happy with the audio and video quality of the player, One quirky thing is that it does a noticeable amount of internal switching when you are playing a DVD or Blue Ray, as the picture and audio quality varies greatly between the the previews and the feature presentation. This also occurs when you switch from the HDMI to the analog connections. when playing a SACD or DVD audio disc, I have this player connected to a Marantz SR6010 and they seem to be a excellent match as is easy to switch to the analog audio connections, unless you prefer the HDMI, and I can enjoy upgraded versions of DTS surround sound. The advance setting are easy to navigate and clearly laid out and I am still fiddling with them. I would highly recommend this player to anyone who will actually appreciate it and not the greedy re-sellers who are making some of these unit, especially the BDP 105 go up over $700, and mind you this is not even the ones with the Darby video processor. If Oppo simply just kept the HDCD decoder in the UDP-203 I would've of saved my self a lot of aggravation from the re-sellers swooping in with 3 seconds to go in the live auction. But such is life and this BDP-95 is finally back in a home in-which it will be thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for all it's sonic and video worth for years to come. Happy trails.Read full review

I got this player after many years of lusting after it. From the moment I turned it on an put in a disc, I was SHOCKED and how unbelievably real the sound it. I'm a vinyl guy. I like vinyl because it sounds so real. No high frequency harshness or smearing like digital can be. I have a nice pioneer elite receiver and that sounds very good. I plugged it in via HDMI and enjoyed the sound. Excellent quality just like my old BDP93. But when I clicked over to analog, using the DACs in the BDP95 it was a huge improvement. Particularly with DSD/SACD source. Of course all the Oppos are feature laden like network music playing. But with this firmware version and off of USB disc or with optical disc. It is, by far the best sounding source I've ever heard. The musicians are here in the room with me. I'm hearing instruments and sounds I've never heard. And it's all in glorious surround. This is really the first time I've listened to anything as good or better than my turntable and vinyl. The best thing is with the ISO firmware on top of that. With that, I have a huge library available from my remote control. No disc changing. And, the guy I bought mine from couldn't have been nicer. He even upgraded shipping to get it to me quicker.Read full review

I bought this primarily for listening to SACDs, and it does a wonderful job with those, due to its great audio section/design. For bluray video, it's not much better, if at all, than my newer, much less expensive sony player, but it's still excellent, and the audio from all blurays is noticeably better. Being 8 years old, it's response time on the remote control functions are a bit slow, but not a problem.

The best quality analog (stereo) audio I ever heard from digital player. I have not compared it with extremely expensive CD players in the $3,000 to $8,000 range spectrum. I do prefer the audio quality of the Oppo 95 over the Oppo 105. I did own a 105 but sold it. The 95 is more natural and musical than the 105. The 105 tends to be a tad bright and causes listening fatigue. The 95 does not. Picture quality is great. Build quality seems very substantial. My favorite digital audio component of all time.

This is by far the best sounding transport I've ever owned. It's far more detailed than the Oppo bdp-93. Visually they are no different. I'm using the hdmi for theater and the analog stereo outputs for music. Sounds superb through my Arcam. It's a shame Oppo is no longer building transports

This is a quality piece. A really great disk transport. I bought it for the amazing audio section. Newer players are hard to find that sound this good, without spending twice as much. The item I got is a sterling example. Nary a scratch. I haven't even watched a disk yet. I'm sure I'm in for a treat. If you're an audiophile, this is one of THE vintage players to buy. Take your time and look for a perfect example. They're not cheap, but they're so strong and well built you'll have them for years.

This Jena Labs modified unit is absolutely top notch. As I own the stock BDP-95 the upgrade is apparent upon first listening and viewing. What you get is an increase in three- dimensionality, dynamics, detail, richness of tonality... This describes both image and sound nearly equally. Very simply put I am pleased to have acquired the unit.

Altho the OPPO 95 is a great home theater addition for blu ray and upscaling dvd, it's audio section for Cd's is almost second to non, Its the reason I bought mine was for the audio section

My third Oppo. By far the best digital sound I have had in my system. It bested my Oppo 981 used as a transport through a Sonic Frontiers D/A converter. I use my 95 in a dedicated two channel audio system with a CAT SL-1 preamp, a Vincent power amp and Sonus Faber speakers. While it still does not measure up to analog (VPI TNT Jr. With ET2 arm and Lyra Clavis), it is getting very close.
