Great book. It incorporated a person's need to grow/follow one's heart and sometimes take a big chance at a change in lifestyle, even with all its problems and fall-out. We're using this book for bookclub this month. And I've read most all of Jon Katz's dog books afterwards so it gives a completeness to his action in this book. Am in a Thomas Merton contemplative group so this is especially great to find another who finds meaning in Merton's words and actions. Katz has a great way with words and I also enjoy his daily blog "The Bedlam Farm"....has some exquisite and inspiring photos now also!! A bright spot in my life to find this author/photographer/nature and dog lover.
Running to the Mountain is yet another book written by the famous author (one of the Oprah Winfrey selections of authors) Jon Katz. Mr. Katz has written and continues to write books on his experiences with dogs and how he compares it to what is going on with his life and dealing with issues that we all face. If you treasure animals, relationships with your family and dealing with what life deals us all, you would find Jon Katz a great author to read and follow.
This book was one of my favorite purchases ever! I love this author and this is one of his best books ever (I have read them all) He opens his heart and mind and shares his life and thoughts with the reader. Annecdotes and tales of his new country cabin and his search for bringing more meaning to his life are absolutely inspiring to any reader. It makes you want to be a better person! He is my favorite author and I recommend his nonfiction works on life and dogs.
This book was very entertaining and well written about Jon Katz's experiences moving from the city to the country with his dogs. Mr. Katz told of the many obstacles involved in purchasing the camp on top of the mountain and all of the work to get the camp livable. I have read other books written by this author and have thoroughly enjoyed reading about his experiences training dogs and taking up farming.
The reasons he went to the Mountains and bought his cabin for the solitude and bringing the dogs. The snow, animals, etc. Just great reading.
