This is a great docking station. The horizontal connection and hinged smoked/clear cover shows what disk is installed, protects the disk from dust and makes disk swapping effortless. The dock makes it easy to hot-swap "internal" disks within the same PC or from one PC to another. Most of the time (in my experience) the docked disk is read by the PC as an internal disk, not a USB-connected disk. Best feature? Unlike similar docks/stations, it has an onboard USB powered fan, which works great at keeping the disk cool. It's a well-executed idea and a good value.

I have only used one other hard drive case before. It worked fine, but I worried about the drive getting too hot as it was closed in and there was no fan. For the same or slightly more cost, this unit was much easier to use and had an integrated cooling fan. It was easy to lift the cover without disturbing the drives function, which also created more freedom for the drive to stay cool and for ease in switching drives. It is simple, no frills, a good case that will fit more than one size drive. Just make sure to safely eject them just as you would safety eject any other external drive, flash drive etc. before switching to another. If this is what you are looking for, I would definitely recommend it.

Plug and play. Faster compared to my other USB 2.0 enclosures. Doesn't run hot for me at least. The fan is silent. If you have lots of hard drives lying around like I do this unit will be very useful. This actually converted me from never buying another hard drive enclosure again and using a dock from now on for backing up data and storing it away or just for testing hard drives and for the ability of swapping hard drives on the fly. The USB 3.0 cable, wall wart and literature was included with my unit.

It works fine. 4 Star because it was missing one rubber leg. I replaced all legs. The drive gets hot even with the fan. I’m using it with the lid opened half of the time. Transfer speed is good, normal you’d expect from usb 3. No driver needed both on OS X & Windows 10. It works fine with 4TB drive. I haven’t tested bigger size drive.
