‘Pumpkin Pumpkin’ is about a boy and his journey as he learns about gardening and the life cycle of growing and harvesting a pumpkin. The evolving cycle of the pumpkin includes starting as a seed, growing on the vine into a mature pumpkin, being carved as a Jack-o-Lantern for Halloween, and finally yielding seeds to be planted again in the spring to grow more pumpkins. The soft colored pencil illustrations are very beautiful and help complete the story. Reading level age 4-8 (24 pages)
As a former children's librarian, this book was a staple of the Halloween season for the very young. It is a simple, non scary story with lovely illustrations, well suited to story time. It translates easily to a flannel board so that children can participate. At the end of the story, I would give each child some pumpkin seeds.
This story tells about a little boy's observation of how a pumpkin seed turns into a pumpkin. It has special appeal in the fall of the year. I purchased it for my grandson and he liked the story and learned about horticulture at the same time.
I got the book and my class love learning all about pumpkins. It really came in handy when we did our pumpkin lesson and then went the pumpkin patch.
Great when doing unit on pumpkin or plants. Easy to read by my kindergarteners after several rereads.
