SynopsisChristmas Eve, 1941. Mere days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt met at the White House. As war raged throughout the world, the two leaders delivered a powerful message of hope that still resonates today. Bestselling author and renowned historian David McCullough relates a compelling story about the spirit of Christmas and the power of light to shine in difficult, dangerous times. Also sharing the stories behind the songs "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas," this beautifully designed book is filled with historic photographs and uplifting messages that will bring the Christmas spirit home to your family.

  • Great Christmas reminder with an historical base.

David McCullough offers a Christmas message through reviewing the background of several Christmas songs. He reminds us that within weeks of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Winston Churchill secretly flew to the USA and met with President Franklin D Roosevelt. Churchill was present at the Christmas Eve White House lighting of the "Presidential" Christmas Tree. McCullough reviews that event, among other and delivers a marvelous message.

  • Very moving view of Christmas season during WWII

This is an important view of American history. Audio on DVD could be better, but I enjoyed it very much. Text is very short but well written.

  • Not up to the standard of McCullough’s normal work. I knew it was VERY short, but I did expect a little more research/history behind it.
