No doubt Ogilvy was one of the Titans of advertising. This is a fun and easy to read romp through his career, full of anecdotes about working for, with, and in an agency. There are many general suggestions of the basics of advertising, and numerous photos of great ads in the past. Unfortunately, I bought this book hoping for insight into writing compelling copy and laying out an effective page. Very little along those lines was provided by the book. A fun, nostalgic read? Sure, but that is not what I anticipated, wanted or needed.

The Book is Awesome. Any young person that think they want to work in Advertising, this Book is A Must Have. You will learn more about Advertising, Direct Mail & Copywriting than listening to some professor philosphy but might not have ever really worked in the field in real life. Fancy Graphics is not always what motivate people to buy. Long copy as a salesperson and way to make sales must not ever be under estimated. Benefits. How will a product really make a difference in a person life. Those things are what motivate people to buy and move to action. Good stories and life lessons and life jewels. Benefits told in a plain down to earth manner in story form outperform pretty and fancy graphics. Writers will really be inspired by this book for many reasons.

Excellent book by David Ogilvy. Basic Marketing rules never change, the psychology is the same as it was 50 years ago. David gives us a look at all the rules that still work today. I recommend this book, and I think its a great value.
