If you want a smart phone without the $30 data plan, this one is it. You must call customer service to activate this phone in order to NOT get charged the mandatory data plan, if you do it through the website or store the option is not available!! Update to Windows 6.1 is a must. Has all the features of a smart phone: Email, Calendar, Tasks, Alarm Clock, Apps:(You Tube, Facebook,Twitter, AP news, etc.) There are many apps available for Windows Mobile in the Windows Market Place App (games, utilities, etc). Wifi works great and is very easy to connect to hot-spots; Opera's browser is highly recommended over Explorer. Other features on the phone is the voice recognition software that allows you to place calls, play specific music/artist/albums, open programs, check your next appointment, and more. For instance you can say, "What is my next appointment?" and it will announce your next appointment according to what you entered in your calender, such as "In 2 days: Dentist Appointment at 3:00p.m.". This works wonderfully with a blue-tooth headset. If you want more customization (ala Droid), download SPB software's "SPB Mobile Shell 3.5". A full touch screen interface (no stylus) to control your phone in an animated graphical environment. It offers complete customization of the phone (backgrounds, icons, shortcut to apps, and more). The SPB program can even integrate your contacts with your Facebook friends; easily adding recent pics of your friends to your picture contact list. There is also a photo contact dialer. Cons: Phone is somewhat bulky. Hard keys on side of phone easy to press when picking up phone. Has GPS but Verizon locked it out. (although Google Maps has a workaround) Overall you will not be disappointed with this phone if you are looking for common features of a smart phone. If you buy the SPB Mobile Shell, it will be so much more.Read full review
This is a good phone if you are upgrading from a simple texting phone & would like something more without spending a lot on a phone. I like that the internet access from verizon can be blocked (I do not have internet on my plan), but I can still access the interent with Wi-fi. Phone is hard to understand initalyy, but once you understand how everything works, it is a good phone to use. I also like how easy it is to text with the large buttons. If you are hoping for an advanced touchscreen, do not buy this phone. You have to use a stylus on the screen. Overall a decent phone.
This is a great phone with a lot of functionality but perhaps a little too much personality of its own... I've had an i760 for a number of years, I bought it on Ebay used for about $300 and it came with 5 batteries and 6 chargers. This is the newest smartphone that you can get through Verizon that does not require the data plan. So if you want a smart phone and not a data plan, this is the best you can do. But not to fear, for it does have wifi that works surprisingly well. With the built in wifi, you can connect to your home's high speed internet or to various free hot spots. It runs on Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile has its ups and downs. A huge plus is that its been around forever so there's just tons and tons of apps for it. Games, IM, practical apps, all of it. This phone is also one of the few models supported by Qik (a video streaming service). For the most part, its fast and responsive and doesn't crash often. On the downside, there is no unified app market like you get on an iDevice or an Android phone. Windows Mobile in and of its self is about as user friendly and stable as Windows 98 with the task bar disabled with all of the added awkwardness and instability of a mobile device. There's lots of little quirks with Windows Mobile that you might have trouble getting used to. Text message alerts are sometimes delayed, it can only sink with MS Outlook (unless you use FinchSync), Internet Explorer is hideously awful (install Opera!!), things like that. They keyboard feels nice, and works well. The touch screen is sensitive and responsive. The call quality is fine. The overall build of the phone is quite solid. The phone is a bit of a brick, and it will weight down your pocket unless you have a belt clip. I have no idea how ladies fit these phones in their little purses. A feature few seem to talk about is Bluetooth. The Bluetooth support on this phone is fine. I used mine with a set of Motorola S9 HD headphones often. Sometimes it would drop unless I put the phone in my shirt pocket. I used it with a very cheap WalMart bluetooth ear piece and the connection was solid with it. Sadly the earpiece was such horrid quality, it didn't matter. The camera is nothing special. It takes OK pictures, it does not take video (with the stock camera app anyway). Its nothing to write home about. Overall, its a nice phone. I used it for many years until the screen cracked for an unknown reason (I had it in my pocket). The phone has been dropped multiple times and had a little damage to the outside case, but the electronics were always rock solid. The battery life was quite decent. It would go for quite a long time on one of the extended life batteries. After having this phone, I would not want to get another Windows Mobile device. When my i760 finally died after its hard life of hell, I replaced it with a Droid 3 which I put in an otterbox. I would recommend this phone if you're looking for a smart phone with a lot of usability and not pay for an expensive data plan. I would not recommend this phone if you're a fan of iDevices. It is quite different, you will bang your head. Once you get used to Windows Mobile, its fine. Getting used to it can be a little bit of a challenge. I like this phone a lot better than my Samsung BlackJack II. Be sure to update to Windows Mobile 6.1! This is a free update from the Samsung website. SD card size is also limited to 2 GBs! Don't waste money on a 16GB card onRead full review
This phone is not a flashy toy like the android, but has one beautiful thing going for it. The keyboard is physical and a joy to use! You can also get it to recognize your handwriting. Rather, it will train you to use the stylus in a manner it can decipher. It is a business phone and can do all the things you will need it to do as such. The camera is more than adequate. This phone has the power and capacity to do the basics well. The WIFI is hit or miss. You can not do without a data plan, as some think. Downloading a dictionary of free WIFI sites in your area is advisable. This phone needs an app to help it log into ZRnet at coffee shops. Get an app killer to lengthen battery life or you will be unhappy with this phone. If you hunt down the right ways to customize it, you will be happy with its layout and functionality. You will not be playing with the phone all day like with the other systems. What a time saver! Now if we can get Microsoft to write as many mindmap, PDF scanner, and other productivity apps for this phone as for other systems!Read full review
