This is my second Sidekick phone the first was drowned.. This Review is a combination of both phones... as phones go it does have a few oddities... if you charge it with a power supply that doesn't provide a lot of power the phone's touch screen won't work while charging.. the battery life is fairly poor... it's water tolerance is awful.. don't use it in the rain don't get it damp... this died the first time when a little spilled tap water went across the table getting a little water into the back plate.. I was able to dry it and use it again.. but the back key and a couple of the letters on the kb no longer worked (u turned up the volume and the back key put out 7&z or something like that D just died) the second time was it's doom.. I fell off my boat into a lake with it in my pocket... then while drying it apart in the sun a sudden thunderstorm moved over and drowned it again... I ordered a new one... as for the good side of this phone it has some good camera features the panorama is my favorite... but no zoom (odd) it also plays games well and the touch screen is good. it plays video without problems and the sound is good... the Android functions are very good as is the layout. I have used several other android phones and I find this one fast and easier to use.. the Keyboard is excellent.. the battery life sucks a bit... it will last 12 hours on a good day if you don't play games or make a lot of calls... The reason I bought this phone is that it was an inexpensive T-Mobile 4G slider... I *HATE* onscreen keyboards.. I do a lot of text entry and when using the soft keys it takes me 5X the time to do anything because of all the correcting... the small QWERTY that it uses is very easy to type on.. in short The Good The Qwerty slider Keyboard The Processor speed The layout of the Android system The 4G speed The ease of use The Camera (conditional) The screen size The Touchscreen (conditional) The Bad The poor water tolerance The battery life The Touchscreen (doesn't work under low power situations) The Camera (no zoom WHY!?!?)Read full review
Gotta say i didn't think Tmobile would continue its SK line with a 4G phone, the only downfall to this phone is the amount of Ram that comes with it which is like 356 mbs or something like that, and out of that 180 something is already used so you pretty much have to kill a lot of the native apps. This phone is a good mid range phone for people who know how to root it and install custom roms on their phones. This phones keyboard is the best by far. I never had a problem with an SK keyboard except for the SK 3G. Other then that Battery life is decent, it allows me to live through the day and the touch screen is pretty responsive. Wish it was a little bit more of a high end phone, then Tmobile would of had a beast phone on their hands!
Me and my wife both have these phones and I have to say they are not very good. The features of the phone are pretty nice with a good camera but it has limited storage space on the phone (only 135MB) which most of it is taken by the android operating system and factory installed apps that you can't get rid of. You can't even use the camera if you do not put an external memory card in. The processin power of this phone is minimal. The phone will freeze up when trying to open your picture gallery or other apps, Overload and drain the battery, and then reset and turn back on. Next thing you know you just went from 90% battery to 5% battery. On the plus side they are pretty durable. Mine fell out of my car while driving and got ran over by another car and I put the batter back in and it still worked. It also survived countless drops to the floor before the screen finally cracked. I give it a 4/5 for features. A 5/5 for durability. But for useability and function I would have to give it a 2/5 due to the constant freezing and resetting and overloading of the battery. Hard to use a phone that freezes when you want to use the GPS or look at pictures or anytime it goes to update apps.Read full review
I absolutely love the Sidekick family, I had the LX 2009 before so this seemed like a logical next best step. The phone is a dream come true for Sidekick lovers, it is smaller than the other models but it includes a touch screen and rearrangement of the home, jumb, menu, and back keys. Its a great phone but has a few quirks, the battery life is not ideal and it will have moments where it freezes; however these are minor and don't make me regret my purchess. I love that the phone allows you to do so much more than the original Sidekicks, definitely a good buy.
This is a great first time smartphone. The issue with the phone is its rather outdated compared to the current versions of android. This means that some applications may not support this device. Most applications support as low at android 2.3, which is useless since this phone can only upgrade to android 2.2 currently. Some applications will support the phone but not work as intended. An example is the Bank of America application. You can login and check your balance but the application is unable to properly take pictures of check when you choose the deposit feature. I also encountered a freezing issue with this phone. It would randomly freeze when you open the camera app or memo app. This appears to be an issue with the amount of RAM/Memory that the device has. The issue is reported by multiple users of the devices. This could be because of the large amount of "bloatware" on the phone. These are applications installed by T-Mobile that can not be removed. But you overall will feel the phone vibrate 2 times and then it reboots when this occurs. So you can imagine you can just trying to look at a memo and your phone reboots. But this doesn't occur in just certain applications this can happen in any application that you open. So its unexpected and rather annoying in my opinion. The phone is great in terms of coverage and 4G service. But that depends a good amount on where you live. One thing I found useless was the sidekicks iconic keyboard. I found myself preferring the on screen keyboard to the physical keyboard because this phone is touch screen. Its rather annoying to be texting and then have to click the screen. You could use the small trackball but I found that annoying also. I would rather use the on screen keyboard and then click send on the screen, which defeats the purpose on the physical keyboard. Some people will want this phone based on their old experience with previous sidekick models. But I would advise you that you may want to look at a newer phone. This phone is about 2 years old and is not supported by Samsung anymore. So before you buy this phone understand you are buying a product that will not be updated anymore and may crash frequently.Read full review
