Needed a nice portrait lens for photo and video. Ordered this very Rokinon 85mm lens that you see right here. Excellent bokeh. However, because I'm working on a crop sensor camera, it shows up on my camera as a 50mm equivalent. However, that's not really a bad thing. 50mm is a great focal length. Focal throw is pretty much what a photo lens focal throw would be like. However, because I primarily use my camera and lenses for video, it could be a little longer. Nothing a follow focus with different gears and a gear ring can't fix. Aperture adjustment has a click lock thing, so that's annoying when it comes to video. It can be fixed by removing and replacing some things in the lens though. As a photo lens, great. As a video lens, very close to perfect.
The optics on this Rokinon / Samyang lens are pristine, clear and distortion free, uses high quality glasses and has very good construction, plus a high speed aperture at f1.4, making it the perfect choice for low light photography and portraits. Something I really love of this lens is its internal focusing (IF) wich makes the lens stay the same size while you focus, perfect for my digital video camera rig on rails. One rare thing with mine (EOS mount) is that the apperture ring goes in opposite direction as the focus ring, it has the closest apperture on the left side and the infinite focus mark on the right side of the focus ring, maybe for lowering the production costs, since nikon lenses had everything in the opposite and this lens is also made for nikon mount.
This is my first 85mm lens don't know what to expect except reading the review and found a lots of positive information. I took a chance and experimented with it for the first couple of days and I was amazed how good the pictures came out with nice blur background at F4. I will try to shoot at wide open aperture next couple of weeks. My camera is an entry level DSLR rebel XS with the right setting you could not go wrong, but keep in mind everything is in manual. I guess you have to at least knowing the basic photography.
It has a very smooth focus ring for easy operation and produces excellent bokeh!

The color yielded from this lens is DOPE! I bought this lens on accident, but I am so glad I did. I own a Nikon but purchased a cannon lens, but a simple adapter fixed that small problem. Since I am using this lens full manual it works amazing with my D2x. Images are very sharp and that matters with portrait shots as well as "high Art".
