The original Tiltall tripod is a true classic. Fortunately, when Leitz took over the original company from the Marchioni Bros., they did not change the design right away. Over the years, now that neither Leitz nor the Marchioni's are involved, the quality has fallen a little. Look for the original silver and blue label. I got my first Tiltall in 1970 and it has served me well over all of these years. It is light enough to carry anywhere without feeling over-loaded and strong enough to support a 4x5 View Camera. The name says it all, Tiltall...it tilts your camera in any direction or angle with ease. The center column reverses so you can get your camera literally at floor level for macro work or just interesting angles. The butter smooth movements make this an enjoyable to use tripod. I actually own three now, one for the studio, one at home and one in the van. I've used other tripods over the years, but have always felt the Tiltall was the best.Read full review
The Tiltall Tripod 4602 is an outstanding tripod. It is convenient to use, has two handles for adjusting the camera angles in so that the picture is level with the horizon or tilted to your desires. It is good for small digital cameras to 4 x 5 view cameras. It is stable, compact for a large tripod, and attaches firmly to the camera. It is all aluminum metal and precision made. I have used them since 1961. If you need a smaller tripod, there is the Tiltall Junior. The only disadvantage is no new parts are available, thus I bought this particular tripod for parts.

Tiltall 4602: For me this is a GREAT Tripod!!! But it has become something of less than ..... as of late. The original 4602 was made by the Marchioni Brothers in NJ and this is the ONLY 4602. In their life time its features and design changed a bit three times. Leitz took over the company, and for the first 6 months of production it was the same. From that point on the quality steadily went downhill. So much so that now it is being produced by some Chinese Company and are retailing it now for the same price as it was first introduced back in the late 40's. If the riveted label does not say 4602 then you are getting a lesser product Even-though people still list it as Tiltall.
I got the Original #4602, not the new version or the Star D. To say I am surprised and pleased is to put it mildly. This thing is built like a tank, and smooth operation. ALL METAL yet Lightweight, SOLID, simple. Weighs just as much as those el-cheapos you can get, around 3#. I fully expect my grandkids to be using it if mechanical tripods are still in use lol. Best deal under $500 Bar None. I had originally bought a cheap-o which was 1/2 of what I paid for this, and really wish I would have just bought this instead. That tripod is now a flashstand until it dies. Get one, seriously, get one - you'll love it.
Tripod has all of its original components adn functions as it should after I was able to free up soe components and lubricate them. Great tripod! Very sturdy and well made! Great price also!

This a minimalist, vintage, very stable and nice tripod. Looks beautiful when extended. It's very high (152 cm without central column). Nice value for money! Weighting a pound less it would be a 10/10. Anyway is a 9/10 (Hey Manfrotto, where are you?)

This tripod is still made, but it's been outsourced to China (naturally), and the price has gone up (naturally). I have no experience with the new ones, only to say they look similar. Caveat Emptor! The old ones, when in good condition, are a photographer's dream! It's a medium weight tripod--not portable! But it's built like a battleship, and NO plastic! They REALLY don't make stuff like this anymore...Sad.

This tripod is affordable, light, and best of all sturdy. It does a fantastic job holding up any of my medium format cameras, no doubt it can hold much more. Make sure to buy the original Marchioni version for the best build, as newer versions aren't as reliable as this old beast. Definitely a great workhorse.

I have been researching tripods for what seems like forever, trying to find something stable for a large format wet plate camera. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. While it's not winning any points for being light that was not my intent. I wanted something heavier and stable, and that's just what I got at a fraction of the cost of many other tripods I was reviewing. So glad I purchased it! Highly recommend for anyone that does wet plate collodion work and needs something stable for their large format camera. I did purchase separately a lens stabilizer for extra support.

Many years ago I used one of these with a Hasselblad. I got this to use with a spotting scope and was happy to find it is as good as ever.
