A few years ago I bought a book by this author and have been hooked ever since. Just when you think you have it figured out she gives you the unexpected. I now own all her books, of which I share with other friends who are now also hooked, and can't wait for the next one to be published. I never miss an opportunity to check and see if there is another one on the market that I do not own yet. If you like a mystery that keeps you interested to the end and then makes you say "Wow, I never expected that", then this is the author to read. This book was another great example of good reading for me.
Thirteen year old Jenny Newhall's biological mother appears on Mother's Day, unannounced. The Reunion is short-lived, as Jenny's real mom, Linda,is found dead in a dumpster. Adoptive parents Karen and Greg are the prime suspects. This book would have been better if it had not sounded so much like a made for TV movie, with sub-plots of the adopting parents now trying to save their marriage over all of this instead of pulling together. Jenny is a brat....no doubt about it. This is not one of Ms. MacDonald's better books. I think the suspense and mystery took a background to family problems. If you are a first time reader, begin with another book of hers.....anyone but this.
This is a non-stop suspense that will leave you wondering how it could just end. You keep wanting to read more even after you have finished the book. You will not be able to put it down. There was also a movie that was adapted from the book-When secrets kill....good movie, also. 2 Thumbs up
