Looks and sounds gorgeous; one star off for censorship
The Blu-ray high definition rendering of this animated musical classic is absolutely gorgeous—night and day better than the horribly transcoded DVD version, which not only looks terrible, it’s improperly coded to play in zoom mode on a 16:9 television, cutting off the heads of half the characters. This Blu-ray version doesn’t have that issue and plays in its proper 4:3 aspect ratio.
A couple of things to note: I did remove one star for Disney censorship of one of the segments for its inclusion of guns. This is a film of historical significance and should be preserved in its original form, without regard to current day politics. That said, classroom teachers may wish to be selective regarding which segments they show to young children, as not all are necessarily appropriate for that setting. But others are fine and very useful as educational tools.
