The early postwar Lionel Locomotives are my favorite. They are solid as a rock and well engineered. Some would say over-engineered. Most are still running today. Can we say that about Korean and Chinese manufactured toys made today ! This Steam Engine has a die cast body, die cast trailing truck, Nickel rimmed, highly detailed Baldwin type driver wheels (Not Plastic), and full operating drive and valve link rods. The mechanical smoke unit is synchronized to the wheel rotation. Just a wonderfully designed toy. These early Lionel engines do not yet have Magnetraction, but that just means they run more prototypically. A little wheel spin as it starts pulling a heavy train load is just fun to watch. They are heavy enough to pull a decent consist of freight or passenger cars. Also, they are repairable. Parts are still available. No wonder they are so collectible!Read full review

Engine will not run. Will sometimes start and go 2 inches, and then it will stop. Can you find a 2025 working replacement? I will pay any reasonable additional cost. What ever you can do would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Ron Lenzi

I got this engine and coal car in 1954 for Christmas when I was 11 years old. Now, 76. Used it until I was in mid teens and boxed it up. Been used intermittently since then. In 1973 after it had been stored for 16 years, an enthusiast and electrician cleaned it and said he "dunked it" in Carbon Tet and then oiled it thoroughly. Handed banded back to me in heavy waxed paper. Ran like a scalded cat with smoke. That was the year I worked for Kalbach Trains & Model Railroading in Milwaukee, WI in the old 6 story building on 6th. Al Kalmbach was still coming to the office then but I digress. Coal tender whistle was little rough but probably needs oiling attention. I have 7 cars for it and am setting it up again to run the Christmas Tree Route. As of this year, this engine is 65 years old and runs as well as when I was a kid. There were no corners cut when they built this one. Engine weighs 7.0 pounds alone. Nothing new for Lionel enthusiasts - just sharing with pride. -David RobbRead full review

The Lionel 2025 is just the best running locomotive in the Postwar Lionel line. I tuned it up and turned in loose. It will now run for another 70 years, because that is what is in the design and manufacture. The tender was a surprise. It was a 2224W that worked. All I did was clean it up, lube it, do the springs and brushes; and wow! It is loud and just great for my Prewar Lionel engines. Again, the engineering, design and manufacturing of this era model train is vastly superior to anything made today.

The Lionel 2025 is a mid-size O gauge postwar steam engine. It belongs to the K-4 class of steam engines. It is a smooth, strong performer. It looks great too. With proper care, it will give many years of service. It is an excellent engine.
