It's good enough. It does stall and hesitate frequently, but it is an old movie. I have this one and the same movie made in 2015 --both are good. Reminds me of Wuthering Heights.

    Far From Lackluster

Julie Christie is engagingly delightful in this John Schlesinger helmed classic adaption of the famous Thomas Hardy novel of a beautiful young lady deciding between three suitors of various classes. The suitors are soldier Terence Stamp, farmer Alan Bates and wealthy land owner Peter Finch. Spellbinding performances from entire cast, however the film as a whole lacks exciting life.

  • Good story. Hold your interest.

It's a good, old fashioned story that takes place in England. I have 2 other DVD movie versions of it. (1967, this one, 1998 and 2006. It's enjoyable. You'll want to watch it again, and maybe once more. So interesting to watch all they had to go through.

  • A stellar adaptation of a Thomas Hardy Classic.

A plus perfromances by Alan Bates, Peter Finch and Terrance Stamp - as well as the always luminous Julie Christie, with the incerdibly talented director, John Schlesinger at the helm. A bit pricey, but totally worth havinh at any price.

  • Good transfer, great film, few features

Excellent adaptation of Hardy's novel and a good quality transfer. I just wish there was some background information about the making of the film.

  • Excellent, particularly for Alan Bates

Well made film with Nicolas Roeg cinematography- lovely Dorset imagery effectively evoking the 19th century.
