A Fantastic entry-level VR Headset that works with many SteamVR titles

The Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset is a VR headset made for use with Windows Mixed Reality, but can be used for games on SteamVR, OpenVR compatible titles, and more through advanced side-loading apps like "Revive". Though this headset doesn't come with base stations, like most of the popular headsets on the market today, this headset tracks your Controllers in an "Inside-out" manner, utilizing the front facing cameras on the Head Mounted Display. After a lot of time playing games with this headset, I can fairly say that the tracking isn't 100% always accurate, but it does do what other headsets do, while remaining cheaper and more portable. The set-up was quick and easy; Just pop on the headset, and a Windows logo appears. The WMR portal sends a screen to your headset telling you to look left to right and at the floor, so that the sensors can map out the space you have. The process is maybe 30 seconds long, and if you use the same space, sometimes you don't have to re-calibrate it. As for the FoV: You do notice that you're wearing a headset, simply put. Your peripherals won't be as wide as if you were wearing an expensive headset, but the "goggle effect" is small and if you're not okay with a small lack in your outermost peripheral vision, you may not appreciate it. The headset is light, however, so it's very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and you can easily adjust the focus points through the Windows Mixed Reality portal. I don't wear glasses, so I'm not sure if glasses are viable with this headset or not. The motion on the controllers is crisp and quick. Windows Mixed Reality in general has problems occasionally with the tracking, but the lighting in your play-space and battery power may have a bit to do with it. Use 1.5v AA special chargeable chargable batteries if possible, or use single use 1.5v's. The lights on the controller are also a neat aesthetics to the Windows Mixed reality branch, and I think you'll find that they're comfortable and lightweight enough to hold for long periods. The headset is not an oculus rift, HTC or Valve index, and Windows mixed reality will never truly hold up to their standards, but if you have lower funding like myself and still want to play your favorite Virtual reality titles: The line of Mixed reality headsets (and acer specifically) are a very good choice to get started, given you are alright with settling for "great", while the more expensive headsets are "Astonishing". This headset is also leaps and bounds ahead of Gear VR, Daydream, and other forms of Phone-to-face VR headsets, and having two touch controllers is far better than one. If you want a genuine PC VR experience and can't afford oculus? Try Mixed reality to hold you over until then. Cheers.

Great head set (minus one problem)

The head set works perfectly fine and pretty well for mixed reality. The packaging was very nice and the product it self looked brand new. The only problem was the right controller. The accelerometer was malfunctioning making gaming pretty annoying. But its not and enough to call this head set bad. Fixing the controller or even buying a new one is still worth it considering the price I paid for it. Head set 5/5. Head set with semi useable controller 3/5

  • Low cost, high performance introduction to VR

The headset is great for people just getting into VR. The display is high resolution and the controls are responsive. There also is no additional hardware needed compared to the other VR setups, just plug in and go. If you play games with STEAM it will let you play many of the other VR games. And it's blue is aesthetically nice. One downside, while it's usable with glasses the edges blur at the outer edges. Also if your eyes or are slightly closer or farther apart than average (IPD) it may be a bit hard to focus since the lens do not move or adjust. Overall I like it.

  • Good quality product, great value, some concerns but no major problems.

This is a great headset for getting into the world of VR without investing huge amounts of money. I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality offered by this headset. The overall build quality of the headset is acceptable, a little on the cheap side but since the product itself is very affordable I can deal with that. My one concern about this product is that it seems like the video cable coming from the headset is jiggling a bit, from being pulled when moving the visor up and down. Currently it is not causing any problems, but I'm a bit worried it will loosen and cause connection problems between the cable and displays. As long as it holds up though, I'm very happy with this purchase.

  • Excellent Intro To VR

This headset was used with GTX 1070 MaxQ and I7-8250H. Overall, this is a great headset. It's very lightweight and doesn't weigh down on you. The blue looks nice in my opinion. The display works well, and is nice and detailed. Could it be more detailed? Yes, but it's still good, especially at this price point. Tracking on the headset is fantastic. It always stays on point with your movements. The controllers are overall good too, but every now and then they get shaky for a moment or two. Setup was super easy, just plug in and press the pair button on the controllers. Content is very diverse, but is a little pricey too. If you have the PC to run mixed reality, get this. You won't regret it.

  • 9/10, Better than the Oculus.

The item itself is a lot smaller than a vive or rift, its light and I love the fact that you can play any vr game on steam. The only cons I have are: The Controller life isn't great, but it isn't horrible The headstrap/band is too firm of padding in my opinion, it sometimes gives me headaches because of the un-distributed weight on 2 points The FOV in the headset is a little smaller than a Rifts, i cant say for a vive because ive never used a vive

  • Good but glichy

It is a great product and it's very fun to use. The picture is clear if you get the angle right. The only problem I encountered is that I keep losing track of the controllers, but they're easy to retrack. It's just a simple inconvenience.

  • Hey, its pretty good!

It just works, VR for an incredibly low price! The front facing camera tracking is rarely a problem, and the fit is very confortable. The controllers are somewhat power hungry, but if you use rechargeable batteries with them, you should be fine

  • Great Deal!

This this is neat! I have used Vive but decided on this headset as it is cheaper and requires no external sensors. I have little space for my VR setup and the hassle of external sensors just would not be worth it. The headset and controllers work great! It is notable that the system is easy, plug, wizard set up and play only if you remain in the Windows VR store. Using third party apps such as steam will take a little effort and you will be google searching each road block on the way as there is not a comprehensive guide or wizard that does everything for third party (Steam VR) set up. The good news is the hurdles are not difficult to clear. Pros: - No external sensors to set up! -Low system requirements for basic usage (some apps and games will require more horsepower) - Easy initial setup - Long single cable (spits at the end to USB 3 and HDMI) minimizes risk of crazy cable nests and tripping Cons: - Internal Sensors mean the controllers can not be detected when you reach behind you (no big deal) - Setting up Steam VR will take some research (This is likely true of Vive and Rift as well)
