I've played guitar for about 15 years and couldn't resist picking up Rocksmith to see what it's all about. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed playing. Rocksmith picks up what you're doing with the guitar very well and I enjoy that my tone matches the song without having to fool with distortion and effects. If you want to play with your tone, tone designer will let you switch around amps, cabinets, pedals, guitars, and get the sound you like for practicing or choose a tone from one of the songs in the game. Having to watch the screen for what notes are coming is a good learning tool. I think it makes the user learn the fretboard better without staring down at it. There are lessons in game that should help any novice guitar player. Everything from how to hold the guitar and pick to how to do harmonics. Once you learn a technique, there are also mini-games to help practice tremolo picking, harmonics, chords, scales, and fretboard motion. Even with years of playing, I found Rocksmith to be entertaining and I think that the game may encourage new guitarists to put in more practice time than they normally would. I learned songs I would have never learned on my own. Not that I couldn't, but I would not bother to learn songs from as many genres. The diversity is good for musicians. If you play or want to play, check this game out.Read full review
For the price now, you can't complain. It is better than the famous Guitar Hero and RockBand games. Probably not 'as fun' but they teach you step by step to actually learn how to play the instrument, since you use the real thing. Gameplay advaces the difficulty as you improve your skills while playing, adds more frets and strings and chords. At the end they teach you the real song. Even if you've got experience on playing the instrument, it shows different techniques so you can learn or improve them. Also has a variety of effects and you can jam freely on your TV without the need of an amp. The only thing I didn't like is that they advertise you the BASS but what they don't tell you is that it's an add-on and you have to purchase it ($10) but still, they could just put it out there. I think on the new version (Rocksmith 2014) it does include it already.Read full review
I bought this to help learn to play the guitar. it may help somewhat, but for the most part it is just a game that uses a real guitar. Pro: it uses a real guitar and will help when trying to learn where the strings and frets are. any practice is better than no practice. Con: the song list is terrible. not all songs have single note option. No free play. a lot of the time the game won't recognize the correct fret when you play. other thoughts: for a beginner it would be better to start off somewhere else. learn a few chords and maybe a song or two before trying this game. for more advanced players it may be better to skip this game because of the misread notes while playing. My Machine: Acer Preditor, win7, I7 pentium, 8 gig ram, nvidia GTX550TI 2gig, 5.1 surround sound, and using a Gibson epiphone guitar. final thought: This is not Guitar Hero, don't expect it to be.Read full review
Awesome for learning to play doesn't even feel like practicing. The interface is a bit confusing at first but its easy to figure out. Need to have a steam account to use this, I wasn't aware of that when I got it, but easily fixed. If you don't have an internet connection on pc you want to use this may want to think about it a bit more. What I like about this the most is the guitar hero like songs that adjust the difficulty level up and down on the fly so if your having difficulties playing for what ever reason it will drop down a level or if your doing great it will jump up a level and give you a challenge so you don't stagnate
The Rocksmith line of games/software is great! I have never played guitar before and the universal realtone cable is great for both my XBox 360 and my PC! Downloading additional songs within the software is easy and the automatic progression based on skill really helps a person strive to get better! I have been rocking to Outshined by Soundgarden on a daily basis! I rock to Def Leppard and Weezer in Rocksmith 2014 for the 360 when my daughters aren't watching their kiddie shows! within 2 weeks, I have achieved about 60% of Pour Some Sugar on Me...which is pretty tough for a rookie, but it still sounds great! Wanna learn and have fun? GET ROCKSMITH NOW! I love it!
