Typically good all-around printer. Easy to set up on your wireless network to send jobs from your laptop or mobile. To me the photo printing was quite good. Wouldn't pay more for a printer that specialized in this feature. Fast copy/scanning operation, for an ink jet printer. The document feeder can handle a bigger stack of docs than I ever have need for. If you're going to use refillable ink tanks, be sure to use ink formulated for Brother printers, or your head will clog up and probably be permanently unusable. This is true especially for magenta and cyan. I've had a couple print heads clog up on me in the past, and I just bought another printer, The prices on these printers, on sale, are low. This one is not a replacement, just an add. The cost savings on refilling the tanks overrides most other considerations. I print a lot.Read full review

I have owned Brother printers for years. I love how easy it is to replace cartridges, the quality prints and a generally durable printer. This model does not have the Ethernet cable connect. It will go into a deep sleep that my WiFi router can't seem to wake it up. I wish I could sleep this well! It will not come out of the sleep unless you turn the printer off and then turn it back on. Even then it takes a minute or so to printer the doc. This is a deal killer for me. I went and got the MFC-J880DW instead. It has the ethernet connection and works like a champ.

Sort of a basic printer but it does the job. Used to work faster with my old Dell, but since I got a new HP Windows 10, the printer takes FOREVER to print one page. So now, I must plan my visits to the printer as there is no need to rush over there. Efficient ink user and rarely has jams as long as you use 24 weight paper or greater. Never have been able to get the fax to work but it's not a deal breaker for me. Good design and easy to maintain. Would buy again if I couldn't afford a better grade of HP.

For the money paid for this budget printer, I really can't complain... not yet at least. I've only had the printer for about a month or so. I researched for a good quality (not the most superior, mind you),...just a home-work , easy to install, easy to maintain and resupply-with-ink, everyday moderate use printer.... and the Brother Wireless All-In-One Color Inkjet Printer Scanner Copier Fax MFC-J485DW fit the bill. Reviews suggested it was true to form, as well. Incidentally, I have bought many big name printers, including HP and Canon. The only one that I could count on for consistency over the years [it lasted about 6 years] was a Brother printer. Let's see if this one lasts at least as long. Fingers crossed. Tired of buying new printers, yearly and getting ROBBED just to buy ink refills!!Read full review

The printer was a little difficult to install on a Ubuntu system. I installed the drivers and scanner software and it works very well if I use the USB cable. I was able to get it to print using only WI-FI, but could not get the scanner to work over WI-FI. I wish that Brother had a little better support for the scanner using a wireless network with Linux.

An excellent printer. Easy to set up wireless. Excellent software included. The printing is 3ppm black & white. Have not tried color yet. If you are looking for speed try another model. I have been a Brother's fan for years.
