It seemed to be a good camera. Until two days after using it the lens jammed. A common fault with Canons. I thought the sliding lens cover would mean its more protected, but the mechanisms flimsy and probably in my case opened in my pocket causing the lens to jam. If you buy one, get a case!
Very good camera. Pictures are excellent. I've read some reviews about Canon PowerShot S80 on different sites and checked pictures quality on digital review before the buying it. Nowadays cameras are different, picture are blurry. On this camera, if you use for exmp. Apple preview app, you find out picture quality doesn't changes, even if you magnify it 4-5 times_that's mean you have a quality product in your hands. By the way movie quality I would say much better than 720p others cameras got today. Strongly recommend this camera, if you find one just buy.
Ok, this may not be the most up to date digital camera. Therefore I need to explain why I got it. I was looking for a camera which went as wide as 28MM (35mm camera equivalent), but still wanted full control of things such as manual focus & AV,TV,manual exposure. The other candidates that went as wide as 28mm either did not offer this level of control or were a good deal more expensive such as Ricoh GX100. I find that manual focus is really important to have for those times when autofocus refuses to lock on to anything. Another plus point is the optical viewfinder which can save a lot on batteries once you know which settings you want and get used to what the indicator lights mean. The image quality at 50 ISO is really spot on with not a hint of noise/grain & I manage to use this for most outdoor daylight shots. Camera is solid & well built as befits a former top line Canon camera from 2005. The minus points are that a small area at the corners on wide angle goes really mushy as if Canon overstretched themselves with the lens design. This is only noticable when viewed at 100%. Not aware of any firmware upgrade that will allow it to use SDHC cards, so limited to 2GB cards, only a problem if you want to shoot lots of movie. S80 is a bit of a brick compared to today's dinky slimlines. As this camera is generally no longer available new, expect to pay up to £150 used for it on ebay. Above this price, expect to get optional accessories or totally unused. If you want 28mm wide angle, full manual control, superb quality at 50 ISO & can live without image stabilization, it may be the camera for you too.Read full review
We bought a brand new Canon Powershot S80 a year or so ago, based on a BEST GUIDE for digital cameras. I have now bought another two, second hand, from Ebay for various members of the family. It is compact, but not too light, i.e. you feel you are holding something substantial without it being heavy. It has an excellent range of features for still photographs or mini movies, with a choice of quality levels. My favourite feature is the Firework setting - fantastic photo's from Bonfires Night. I would recommend buying a protective case as the back viewing screen of mine is scratched, but not damaged. It is an easy - point and click - digital camera with fantastic quality images. To give you an example, I have just enlarged one photo into a large poster for the wall. No-one can believe it is a photograph as there is no pixilation!Read full review
According to the reviews, excellent camera. Some people don't like the flash, too strong, neither do i. 400 iso noisy which i knew but didn't realised how it is anoying when taking pictures in low light without flash. Also the color is not as natural as i thought it would be. I would say there is a kind of artificial result in the pictures.Prefered my Fuji Fx30. May be i don't know how to get the best of the camera, tried different settings thought. What i loved is that is very easy to use and fast.
Obvious signs of prior abuse - like it had been dropped, dents, scratches, blemishes on LCD display, case gaping open etc etc. Under an hour with some jewellers screwdrivers, some careful fettling and hey presto! A perfectly functioning rebuilt but cosmetically imperfect S80 that takes amazing photos. Leave it on auto or use one of the many "professional" shooting options..... it will turn out excellent results. The wide angle lens (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm film terms) is a distinct advantage over most compacts when you are into interior architecture etc. For the price I paid, and the effort I put in to restore the camera to some semblance of its original appearance, I am delighted. Could benefit from higher ISO sensitivity and image stabilisation, but this is now a comparatively old model; technology moves inexorably onRead full review
This camera is excellent with both pictures and videos. Very easy to use but also packed if needed with all the SLR manual controls (aperture, exposure...)
i had previously owned one and i dropped it with the lens open, so the cheaper option was to buy another one... they are fantastic cameras, with a wealth of features... easy to use and compact, quite heavy, but i like that... the picture quality is superb, and the pre set scenes are invaluable.. You also have the ability to change exposure etc manually, All in all this is an ideal camera for any photography enthusiast!
Quality camera. Bought with diving case as looking for rugged camera with high quality images and video. Diving colour mode. 28-100 zoom but don't need more. Good looking camera but if your interest is results rather than small size or reach this does a great job. No longer latest model so fantastic value second hand
Good camera, less solid than the S70 though and feels a bit plasticky by comparison. Otherwise very similar to the previous model....................................................................................................................................
