the great system no issues with it brings back some great memories 2 of the 3 games that came with it work wonderfully but the system did not come with the expansion pack which makes the DK64 unplayable but i can buy that later. only true quarrel i have with it is it say the power cord is OEM its clearly after market but it does work fine.

Plugged in and nothing happened... luckily I read other reviews that said clean it and cut power on and off repeatedly after doing that about twenty five times it cut on and has worked great since if it would have shipped ready to play would have giving five stars

It's hard to forget the glory gaming days the Nintendo 64 console brought us when it first hit the shelves over 15 years ago. The N64 was the top tier of hardware and the games that were released were considered the deepest and most entertaining library of software ever developed for a gaming platform. All that being said, a lot has changed since 1995 and the N64 does not translate so well when used along side of todays technology. When the N64 first arrived even though the graphics were groundbreaking they were famous for a "blurry" look even on standard definition TVs of the day and that problem is magnified by our HDTVs we use today, lets break down the biggest problems first. With any HDTV, you will need to scrap the RF or AV cables and upgrade to an s-video cord as the visual quality of either RF or AV renders playing anything like 007 or Perfect Dark close to impossible to play as you can not make out targets in the distance and the texture is enough to make you want to vomit. Experimenting with your HDTV settings between aspect ratio will improve some games but not others, it becomes a real chore to change and reset settings like this every time you want to play another cart. You absolutely must have the Nintendo memory expansion in the N64 as it increases the maximum resolution the console can display, trying to play anything without it on an HDTV is not going to work. Those are all issues, some can be overlooked, others can not, so you may ask, well, what can I do to enjoy my N64 then? There is no simple answer, the best solution is to play your N64 console on a standard definition TV around 19 or 20" using AV or S-Video, this will bring graphics to a level you will find playable but you must also remember the hardware is over 15 years old and is never going to look the way you remember it looking. In conclusion, I would recommend either purchasing N64 games through a Wii system and playing them that way since it is HDTV friendly and will look worlds better than straight from a N64. A last option would be to play N64 games through an emulator on your PC such as Project 64 and send the signal to your HDTV through a VGA connection, will look great for what it is. If you are a hard core gamer, your going to want the original hardware and cartridges but if your a novice in search of some nostalgia and fun from old N64 games, purchase them from the Wii store or get an emulator and save yourself some headaches.Read full review
The Nintendo 64 was everybody's favorite childhood system; it certainly was mine. With an excellent library of games, the N64 revolutionized 3D gaming. Of course, it is without its flaws. The Nintendo 64 console itself is very durable as I had mine for over 13 years, and it still works great! The problem I have with the console is the controllers. The controllers are faulty; I mean ALL N64 brand controllers have at least two faults to them. Let's start with the original N64 controller that comes with the system. The original has two flaws; the analog stick or joystick and the d-pad. The joystick becomes loose after a month of using it. Sometimes it becomes so loose that it is no longer usable. The d-pad becomes stiff after a period of time (3 months). It gets to the point where you have to press extra hard for it to work (Like the NES controller after extensive use). Next are the Superpads or Superpad 64, whichever you prefer to call it. There are two versions of this controller: the black-long-joystick-to-the-left controllers and the colored bulky controllers that resembles the N64 controller, but, really, it looks like crap. Let's start with the black Superpad controllers. These get heavy praise on YouTube because the joystick does not get loose and it stays solid no matter what. There are three flaws to this controller. First, the cord that connects to the controller easily loosens, which makes the controller unresponsive after awhile. Secondly, the Z button no longer works or becomes stiff after one month of use. Seriously, the Z button? Third or lastly, the joystick ruins faster than the original N64 controller because it rotates your character by itself when playing any game. It's like your character is spinning in circles and you have not laid a hand on the joystick yet. How can this be? Once it starts doing this, it's broken. It usually occurs one to three months depending how much you use it. The other Superpad, the one that comes in 8 different colors: red, green, black, grey, gold, blue, clear, or yellow. This controller is bulky and heavy. They sell a lot of these on ebay and amazon and is cheaper to buy than the other superpad controller. The problem with this controller is the same with the other superpad controller: loose cord, stiff Z button, and metal joystick that spins your character around in circles without even touching it. I know your thinking, 'couldn't you just unplug the controller and plug it back in for the spinning to stop?' No, once it starts doing that, it won't stop; plus this controller gets greasy so easily. Then there are the other third party controllers that have a combination of problems. But the one problem that occurs often with these controllers is the joystick. Unless you have a Hori Pad Mini or an arcade pad, you will always have problems with the joystick of any N64 controller. Overall, the N64 has flawed controllers that make game play annoying. Yes, the N64 has many classic games, but what good are they if you can't play them properly or play them at all. You'll spend more time and money looking for controller replacements than actually playing the game system itself. I know I did, with the 13 plus years as a Nintendo 64 user, I went through over 50 controllers, all types and brands. None have matched the quality of my one and only Dualshock 1 controller, and that came out in the same era as the N64. Bottom line, it just isn't worth the stretch.Read full review
The last great console to use cartridges. A system that was fun for all ages of its time. N64 introduced integrated 4-player functionality for the first time, and many games support the feature. System is very durable, and controllers will last just as long if taken care of and not abused. While it's library of games also feature games for a more mature audience, Nintendo is better known for its family friendly titles, such as, Mario World 64, Mario Kart 64, and many others. This is a great console for younger kids or those wishing to revisit their childhood. Overall the N64 is a very solid console that can still provide hours of entertainment even in the midst of today's more capable systems.
First, we did buy this used, so we didn't pay much for this game console. So the WOW FACTOR over shadows what we paid for it. We got this game system for my six year old daughter, we were going to get het her a Nintendo 3DS, but like my wife pointed out she doesn't like to play by herself, so we would also be playing. Her main thing was she wanted to play Mario Bros. We just wanted her to get used to a bigger system, her previous video game is one of the plug in controllers with built-in Classic Atari Games, and a couple of PC Games. So before we get her a Wii or a 3DS, we'll see how this works out. I do know the Game Console came in GREAT! condition as well as the Controller and the included games. I tried it out, I was really impressed by the graphics, didn't take long to get a hold of, on learning how to use it. Bottom line, if your child wants a video game system, I think they will enjoy this. My total expense for everything: Nintendo 64 Console with two games, one extra game, two extra brand new Controllers in Blue Total:$82.72, not bad compared to $199.99 or $299.99 for new game systems. Another good thing E-Bay is loaded in Nintendo 64 Games. Now once my daughter learns the System really well then we'll get a Brand new System.Read full review
Low Price, Amazing # of titles available = great fun, Nintendo 64 Console that can have four Controllers. A classic system that will provide great fun for all ages. Great games available to provide endless multi player entertainment. As soon as this came out many people got it and bought the first game that came out for it that is also a hit game, super mario 64. To this day people talk about this system more than any other old nintindo. This is the first nintindo that many series came out on like super smash bros and it is the first system that they used computers to make nintindo games. U can tell it is because just look at the graphics difference from the snes to this one which just stoped being made a couple of years before the n64 came out. This was one of my favorite nintindos that have ever came out. We've owned a N64 for years and find that no matter who comes over to visit, or what the age group of the visitors, there is always a game that is vastly fun to play. There are single-player games, party games, competition games, cooperative games, thinking games, shooting games, and everything in between. For a household looking for a fun way to spend time together or to relax and have fun, the N64 is definitely worth looking into. It holds up well compared to the other consoles on the market, and offers something for everyone. In conclusion, N64 is the best system for games, fun, and multi player because of it's four controller ports. I suppose that's why they call it "The Fun Machine". And for a console & 4 controllers, you can't go wrong!Read full review
Just like to respond to the review below... I can't imagine where all this information about the controllers is coming from. My parents purchased one of these for me over 10 years ago, along with a second identical controller for my sister--both controllers are in perfect working condition as of today, and would be in nearly perfect cosmetic condition if one of our animals hadn't chewed through part of the cable. I suppose if you frequently crush up potato chips and grind them into your controller while bathing it in soda, it wouldn't last too long, but for standard wear and tear caused by young children, they'll still be around when you want to go back five years later and crush Ganondorf for the 27th time.
It works fine the only thing is the graphics, I bought it because I had loved playing it and have warm memories from it but that was like 16 years ago so the graphics was the only thing I wasnt satisfied with but its still fun to play!

Nintendo 64. Yes, the wonderful 64 bit system that came out in competition at the time with the original Playstation. In my opinion this was the best system that existed at the time, and it still hold up today. As far as game selection goes you can't go wrong with game like Mario 64, Waverace, Excitebike 64, Doom 64, Extreme G and Starfox...and of course lets not forget the greatest video game of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Oh gee, I also forgot a couple of gems like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... Also the system comes in many different colors to choose from. Goes from this basic smoke grey console, to limited edition ones like Pikachu (I personally don't care about that) to the atomic color series (the ones I do care about). I myself have an atomic green console. Also, you could get thte expansion pak which allowed for an extra 4 bits of graphics that basically made it a N68, and also gave you extra choices and features on select games (most notably that comes to mind is Perfect Dark). This is the first time Nintendo really got into thte world of 3D seriously, save for a few titles on the SNES though the limitations of that system really didn't do it justice. Compared to todays 3D environments of the Wii, PS3 or XBOX 360 it really doesn't stack up, but lets remember what time this console came out people. Even today I still enjoy playing my old favorite games fron the N64 era. One thing in my opinon that Nintendo had over the competition at the time (and argueably still today) is gameplay. Their games were just more fun to play regardless of all the fancy bells and whistles such as graphics (though it still looked better that the original playstation if you ask me). Substance over flash... though I hear the new Wii U is going to blow away all the other systems that currently exist which kind of blows my mind. Anyway, back to the N64. The N64 offered accesories like the rumble pak, which may seem lame to the new generation as now all rumble features are included within the controller, but let me tell you at the time it was revolutionary for Nintedo fans such as myself. Unfortunately there was not a light gun for the N64 which I was always gunning for (no pun intended...ah, okay, maybe it was) but that's not too much of a big deal. The controllers were a little different. They are big and bulky, and when it came out it really looked like something from another planet, but it functions quite well. THe only bad thing is that over time, especially if you will play your N64 quite a lot, the joy stick will become loose. It does take quite awhile, but that's the only bad thing about the controller that I can think of. The joystick for the N64's controller has a lot of mechanical moving parts, so it's not too surprising that this occurs. It's this weird pulley/lever system thing they have going on... really I'm not joking, I've taken one apart. Now days all you have is a ball in a socket in which not much can go wrong...much better. I really recommend this system thoguh. With up to 4 player multiplayer and like I said, quite a large catalouge of games to choose from, and being that you're getting the quality of Nintendo, you can't go wrong with this system. Any true gamer or retro collector owes it to themselves to own this classic console!Read full review
