This SATA adapter card is for (older) laptops with cardbus (PCMCIA) slots. It uses the common Silicon Image 3112 chip and comes with a driver CD which contains a 32bit 9X/2K/XP/Vista (Win7) driver, but I didn't see a 64bit driver on that drivers CD. (I still use XP) I do think I remember seeing Silicon Image 3x12 (3112 and 3512) 64bit Win7 drivers while mucking about on the Web and the Internet "Wayback Machine", but the eBay Gods won't let me post a URL to download said drivers... This has two SATA style connectors, not eSATA, so be sure to buy a "hybrid" cable (or two cables-they're cheap) with both connectors (available from many eBay sellers) to use this with most eSATA external HDD enclosures. Like lots of older bus technology SATA adapters, throughput will be limited by the speed of the bus, but even still, SATA HDD speeds will be MUCH faster than USB2 speeds.Read full review

I hooked it up to a Lenovo 3000 n100 laptop and plan to convert it to a linux file server with two HDDs connected to it. The speed is good and is great value at $10!
