The DSC-P50 is a 2001 year model Sony Digital Camera. I notice a bit of overrating for a 6 year old camera. Realize before buying this model that the memory cards are outdated and limited to 128MB, the higher capacity Memory Sticks will not work with the DSC-P50. For a little more you can buy a much newer digital camera for just a few dollars more. The DSC-P50 is really not worth more than about $35. Using 2 regular Alkaline AA 1.5 volt batteries will last for just a few maybe 12 pictures because the DSC-P50 is designed to work with the rechargeable NP-FS11 which is a 3.6 volt battery. The AA batteries leave you short more than 1/2 a volt, which drains the batteries much faster. Newer cameras with rechargeable Li-ion batteries last a lot longer and you won’t be left with no camera for those important shots. These older models also take longer between shots, so you may be waiting and missing shots while the camera is resetting for the next shot. Don't spend too much on this classic you may be buying another higher resolution camera soon after. Otherwise it is a good 6 year old camera.Read full review
The Good: Camera is easy to use, has great features, uses easily found AA batteries, and takes nice quality pictures. The Bad: Camera does not have long battery life. Over All: It's a great camera for the price.
I really like this camera, when I purchased it it was just the camera w/ the USB plug , so that I could connect it to my computer. I acquired a battery, power cord and memory sticks for it and it really does a good job in taking pictures. What I like about it the most is that I can attach a 37mm lens to it. I was surprised about that feature when I got. Did some reading upon this model, I do believe it was one of Sony's first cyber shot cameras of its kind, made in January 2001, but don't quote me on that. This is really a great camera and I'm so happy that I found it. I would put this up against a new cyber shot 14mp ANY day OF THE WEEK. When it arrived here, it was it excellent condition. The price I paid for the camera, plus with the other items I picked up along the way, I was amazed at how I saved money on purchasing another camera. (under 60.00) I own 3 Fuji, 1 35mm Cannon, 1 35mm Olympus, and this camera can do all my cameras can plus a little more.Read full review
We have now owned 2 Sony's and we love them! They are Great point and shoot cameras! Easy to use and the pictures turn out GREAT with them! We have even printed out 8x10's and people thought they were professional photographs! We dropped our first sony in a waterfall, and it took a few months to dry out. In the meantime we bought another. It was nice to have 2! Now, we are in the process of purchasing another. We have dropped both of them, with minimal damage, such as the battery door not shutting properly or memory card door doing the same thing. But, that is IT! Off to purchase another!
In 2001 digital cameras were new and expensive. Sony DSC - P50 was my first digital camera, and by today’s standards it not the best, but then, it was the coolest thing ever! When we moved it got lost, and I have had many cameras ,currently the Sony a6000. But there is always something about your first they say. I’m glad I found it here. It is in great shape and still works! Thank you!
