Unbeatable deal for the price. If one doesn't have a need for a lack of Articulating LED, no high ISO setting, no high shutter speeds, no useless very high mega pixiel count. No major increase of on screen sensors. No high Kelvin temperatures. No high shutter speeds. If one has been living without these features then who really cares. A lot of camera at a low and reasonable price.

It's a really great DSLR. Positive: *Image quality at ISO 200 is truly amazing. ISO 3200-6400 is usable! *AF is very fast thanks to # - double cross central sensor. *Body is solid and well balanced. *LCD is super clear! *Battery life is long. *View finder is very bright thanks to solid glass pentaprism. *In camera sensor-shift image stabilization really works with all lenses! *Very fast image playback! Negative: *PC-sync terminal is not as strong as should be! *No LiveView! *No auto achromatic aberration correction! *Mirror makes very loud bang every time, so you can't use it in a quiet room, classroom, lecture, without getting attention. Overall I think it's great camera, especially after taking some 25,000 pics with it! I hope Sony will put out a worthy update by the time this one gets obsolete, which probably will be in a long time!Read full review
I love this camera! Sold my a330 to upgrade to the a700 body. Gives me so much more custom options for any type of photography. A-mount frame works with all my Sony/Minolta lenses. This camera was everything and more that I had read about on line. Was going for the a55 but opted out for the fact that it is not a real DSLR camera. In comparison my friend shoots with a Nikon D90 and we both agree that they are very close as far as functions, features and picture quality. The a700 is my stepping stone til I get better to handle and afford the a900 body.
This is an awesome easy to use semi pro camera. Sony has a quality product at a better price than the others and a far better built product. Love this camera.....I traded a new Canon for a used Sony.....don't regret it.

My favorite thing about this camera is the quick menu and the function button that allows you to do everything right on the screen! I like the options of the focusing, specifically the contuses focusing! Its great when I shoot weddings! Of course I would love the face detection like the new A77 but I will have that eventually! Thank you Sony for my amazing camera!

Bought the A700 body to backup my A100. After a week or so the A700 is now my primary camera. Larger screen, higher ISO, more mps, dual memory slots, battery charge status, quieter shutter, solid body. Controls are more ergonomic. The built in stabilizer in the Alphas is great and my minolta lenses all fit. The 12.2 mp provide very high quality images. Great camera.
As a photographer, both professionally and hobby wise, I have used all sorts of gear. When I got my first Minolta's, a 5D and then a 7D, I was hooked on DSLR cameras. Sometime ago, I got a chance to buy a Sony A700 which was a good deal and not only that, I could still use the majority of my Minolta lenses and flash equipment. The megapixels doubled from the 5D and 7D and the image quality increased as well. The A700 is a great piece of photographic equipment. I still use my Mamiya RB67 for a lot of landscape photos, but it seems I tend to pick up the A700 more and more for that work. It is a great camera and if you can find one for under $300.00, I'd say it's a good buy.

Used to use this but gave mine to my daughter and bought a A900. Found the A900 too professional for me as it lacked the "quick set" button images on top and lacked the flash. Still had awesome lenses so just needed another A700 body. So happy this one was available to purchase.

My Minolta experience starts with the old Maxxum 7000 from the mid 80's. I went "digital" with the A1 and then moved on to the 7D, in fact I was looking for another 7D when I found that the A700 was selling at about the same price as the 7D... (Tells you how good the 7D still is...) I've owned Canons and Nikons, still have my D200, but the ergonomics of the Minolta (Now Sony.) always makes me grab a Minolta... Now the A700 doesn't "feel" as "in control" as the 7D, but it is fast enough to make up for the missing controls the 7D had. Love the repeated controls of the vertical grip... Just wish it had a "custom" dial instead of a custom button... It is too dependent on the rear LCD, needs a top LCD... Just a few minor tweaks and you'd have a perfect photographic tool... You just can't find another camera at this level for $400 to $500.Read full review
Bought this camera as a replacement to my current sony body and have no faults and just a few additions i wouldn't mind seeing in a future model. Pros -Great Image Quality -Superb High ISO Quality -Quick Menu Navigation Pretty Much for the date this camera was released I see no faults in it's Image Quality it can sometimes be a little over brushing with Noise reduction but you can turn that off. As for what i would change Mirror lock up with a dedicated button. Automatic Switching between Memory Cards This is an absolutely wonderful camera my wish-list may continue but i still love this camera.
