I have the SD850 and bought this for my wife. It's a handy little point and shoot, with all that that implies. Not a professional-quality camera, and there aren't that many options. But it takes a good picture in good light, and not such a bad shot in lesser light. Like all the cameras in this series, it has pretty quick button response (takes a picture while the event is still happening, unlike some...). It also has reasonable "grab" on the autofocus--I had a little Nikon that seemed to focus on nearly random objects in the foreground and you couldn't do a thing about it--with these Canons it's possible to "shake off" an autofocus on the wrong thing and correct it. Takes a big SD card; 2gb should be enough to keep you out of trouble for a long time. Batteries are a little expensive and you'll want 2, especially if you use the flash. All in all, a great little camera. It's not an SLR, and that can take a little getting used to. But my wife loves it; fits in a purse or pocket, it's great at what it's for.Read full review
Purchased this used SD500 camera for my 12 year old daughter because the prices for a "quality" portable one-time-use camera is high~way robbery! I just spent $16.99 for a 24 count flash portable camera for her overnight bible retreat trip and was not pleased with the quality of the photos which cost an add'l 8 bucks to process - - - REALLY?!?!?!?!?!? I am happy with my purchase (gently used with software, battery & recharger etc.) for $80 bucks (shipping free). Having owned the SD750 myself & loving it...I thought I'd give this a whirl. My daughter is so pleased and it is very user friendly and she is not intimidated by it's features. SHE IS SO GLAD TO OWN HER OWN CAMERA NOW and is thoroughly enjoying her camera. The best part of this is that if she doesn't like the photo she took - - - she can simply delete it and retake it :) HOORAY!!!!Read full review
It works like a charm. I bought used with original charger. Turns on within 2 seconds. Auto focus is extremely quick. Auto exposure works well, if there is backlighting, when pointing at the correct angle. Low light pictures are a bit grainy but better than other point and shoot compact cameras I have used. The camera body is well built and strong. The lens should have been a bit higher quality. Battery life is not as long as it should be. In regular use mode, the battery needs re-charging after 2-3 days - it lasts for 50 to 60 shots.
love it it suits my needs well a little aged in the memory capacity of the sandisc, but we know that goin in love the size and shape, feels good in the hand and pocket battery and charging simple and effective

Outstanding value, It's hard to believe this great camera was near 400.00 dollars new and I was able to get this well kept camera for less than 25.00. I have been pressing the shutter release since 1965 and am really enjoying this new to me toy. I am finally getting the hang of the digital imaging and it is not bad.. I convinced an associate to try digital and she likes it. I will probably give her this Canon and look for another one. Oledude
