Advertisement and facts Yamaha - CS-BW Boom arm Unremovable counter weight
The product itself is awesome but there are a few facts that should be known prior to purchase. Some folks have assumed that there is a cymbal tube or the top part of a cymbal stand included with this CS-BW Yamaha Boom arm because of the picture within most advertisements. This is not the case. Only the boom arm is what is being sold. Also, on every advertisement I have seen, it states REMOVABLE weight. The weight does not remove. Some reviews I have seen state that there is a set screw exposed if you pull back the rubber, and that if you loosen that set screw , you can then unscrew the counter weight. I could not remove my rubber nor did I feel like struggling to pull it back to find a set screw. I didn't want to damage it and I shouldn't ave to do it that way! And that's another thing too,...from pictures in the add,I assumed or was thinking that the black weight in the back was a metal covering over the solid metal weight. I assumed it was all metal. All black I have seen on counter weights has been solid metal in the past from any brand. The black in this is a thick galvanized rubber around the stainless metal weight. Most of all the weight is the metal weight underneath the black RUBBER covering. My experiences with Rubber is that after so many years it could break down, crack or rot and in that event, I would cut it off and the boom arm would still be cool as the weight is still there from what I can tell. As far as my confusion regarding the advertisement of REMOVABLE weight, I consulted with Yamaha. Here's what they said :
"The CS-BW counterweight is NOT removable, and is only compatible with stands that have the hinged boom tilt assist (like the CS-755, CS-865, CS-965, CH-750W and CH-755 boom arm attachments).
(A) It's a mistake in the description. We've addressed it but the incorrect description/info is still out there. Just so you're aware, the counterweight is NOT removable."
So... this is Yamaha's statement to me. One thought I had was , I wondered then if at one time Yamaha had an older version of this or something. Yamaha didn't answer that question but only stated via email this statement above regarding this boom arm. For me, I knew what it was anyway and read enough reviews so I knew it would work for me, and I really like the CS865,965 stands! I used to own the older Yamaha boom stands. They could only be used one way and they were bulky and the tubing was thick. These are just booms and I can switch them out with any cymbal stand boom arm. They also fit TAMA stands real well, but you have to unscrew the tama tilt adjuster to open it up enough. Yamaha is a company who's hardware and drums I really like! My experiences with Yamaha is that if they are making something you really like, my advice is get it if you can, and hang onto it! On a regular cycle, Yamaha makes products in the drum world and then discontinues them sooner or later. My opinion is that some of this stuff could very easily become obscure or prices can jump as well.
