I really like this series of digital cameras and have been buying used ones to replace old ones that break. Easy to use, lots of nice features, relatively compact, pictures come out looking great. The big drawback is it seems all of these cameras eventually break as the "door" that slides over the retractable lens and turns the camera off or on first becomes "sticky" and soon thereafter becomes stuck completely. You break the camera when you try to force the stuck door open or closed. A definite design flaw. My most recent e-Bay purchase of an S-45 was a very nice camera showing very few signs of use. Unfortunately, the door is already becoming "sticky", so I know the camera doesn't have a whole lot of life left in it despite the very nice cosmetic appearance.
This digital camera has a solidity and heft not usually found in the typical point and shoot digital camera. It feels as if the camera was carved from a billet of titanium or chromium steel. This digicam takes terrific pictures and has some very upscale features borrowed from the upper-end Canon digicams. The camera accepts BOT Type I and Type II Compact Flash cards which means that you can use the family of IBM/Hitachi Microdrive Compact Flash Hard Drives with no problems whatsoever. This is one of Canon’s most popular digicams because of the rich feature set and the build quality that is several cuts above the other competing digicams in this price class.
I bought this camera on a whim, but found that it is not what I expected. It is an earlier version of digital camera and requires too much adjustment to be user friendly. It is also large for a digital camera, so it is bulky by today's standards. The picture quality is good and the range options available on it are also good, but it takes too many manual adjustments to be considered an easy use device. I would not recommend it unless you have the patience to read the owner's manual and become acquainted with its features. I want a camera that self-adjusts for the most part - this is not the ticket for that.
Takes great pictures. I needed clear pictures of the engravings on silver trumpets this camera did it, where other cameras did not manage to take clear pictures. This camera has many features that I will learn to use. Great documentation in the manual.

It's a little big and heavy for a digital camera these days but I've used the same model for years now and it's a solid, reliable camera that does everything you need. Pictures and video! The quality of both are excellent. After six years and about 50 drops, the picture screen on the back finally broke. I bought the same model and look forward to another six at least.
