I added this pickup in between to full size humbuckers. A Humbucker from Hell & a Super Distortion, on a custom tele style guitar. I was looking for a nice quacky strat sound when combined with the super in the bridge, but wanted a warmer tone with less treble when played alone. This worked out great. I have the two humbuckers wired like a Gibson, on the first three positions of a 5 way, with the 4th position combined with the super & the 409, & the last position just the 409. This gives me a nice variety of sounds. A simple height adjustment on each pickup takes care of the different pickup outputs. Pickup is very quiet with great tone. It works out for a unique setup.

I LOVE Strats. I HATE 60hz hum. I've tried a wide variety of pickups over the years and thought my search was over when Dimarzio made their "Virtual Vintage " series. My bar for neck pickups is set fairly high, as I played a '62 Stratocaster for about 11 years. Trick was, even THAT guitar's bridge pickup could get a little shrill. Most replacements took away too much top end. The Virtual Vintage series pickups in the neck and middle are PERFECTLY complimented by the Heavy Blues 2 in the Bridge position. plenty of girth on the low strings, just enough snap for country. aggressive when overdriven but my "pedal steel" licks are sweet and clean. Br+ M position, is classic, and the whole rig is QUIET. I STRONGLY recommend this as a bridge pickup when combined with Dimarzio HS2 or Virtual Vintage neck PUPSRead full review
