Purchased off of ebay.If you like tiny small cameras that are easy to travel or take with you for example to amusement parks the this is not the camera for you! Although the body of the camera is small the lens which is non detachable takes up most of the camera .I did not like the attention every one gaved when I just took out the camera to take a picture .I was more noticable then the photographer at my friends wedding .Truly :) The lens barrel is the weight and major structure of the camera, it's easily twice the weight of the back, containing a 5x zoom (7.1mm - 35.5mm) lens system by Carl Zeiss, the 1/2" 2.11 megapixel HAD CCD, pop-up flash and mounting various "at hand" controls. The lens has a fly-by-wire focus ring on the front with a 52mm filter thread. On the base (located dead center) of the lens barrel is a metal tripod mount surrounded by a thick metal mounting plate.. very reassuring. The lens and camera body I forgot to mention does swivel !Their is no viewfinder but a LCD display which due to the ergonomic design I became use to very quick. The flash could be much brighter.Three disappointments on the flash, first one is that for close-ups (and macros) the top edge of the lens barrel casts a shadow into the scene. The second is that there's no anti-red-eye option, third is there's no external flash-synch connector so there's no chance (unless you use a slave, but then you can't disable the internal flash) to use a better external or studio flash system. I found my canon had a better flash for in the dark or night shots .So as for night shots I was not too thrilled on it .The picture quality is fine it is to be expected of a 2.1 megapixel so nothing negative to say about that .Has many different features on the camera. If you can get it to by at a reasonable price I say go ahead and buy it . Reading the reivews the camera came out in 1999/2000 at $1000 back thenRead full review
I recently purchased from bruincomputer an excellent starter digital camera in the Sony Cybe-Shot family that came with an impressive package. The camera included all cables from camera to television, from camera USB to computer, and cables for AC current for camera use through AC Power Adaptor, AC-VF10, two Sony batteries, and no memory stick was included. However, the standard Sony 'memory stick' is the only compatible memory source the camera will accept. I have found the camera to be very similar to the 2.1 MP styled larger cameras in the Sony Mavica family class which included the 8cm disc 2.1 MPEGMOVEHQ as well as the same camera, both with 20X precision digital zoom steady shot cd-recordable which can be placed in some computers and operated directly or through an adaptor wherein the 8cm dis fits within and can be inserted into ones computer for operation. The other mentioned camera is essentially the same except for having two data resources, one for floppy diskette and the other for memory stick. This camera is essentially set up as the cd disc camera with the same programming except that on the reviewed camera; it is exceptionally unique with a "rotating lens" with a Hybrid LCD and all encased in a magnesium alloy body. My camera may take up to 1100 shots on a 1 hr battery life. Again, another similarity is that the MPEGMOVIE is a digital still camera; DSC-F505. The first impression of the undersigned was the extreme ease and convenience of size without compromising any components or features I have compared for those of you who are familiar with the large models in the Sony Mavica line. I also own the disc model in the Mavic line that has given as good or better 20X optical shots as my MVC-CD500 primarily made for close-range with the excellent "Carl Zeiss: Vario-Sonnar" extended lenses which I plan to add one telescopic lens just for curiosity to see the acuity of this top of the line Mavica series cameras with 5 MegaPixels. I will end with objectively being able to state with indifferent feelings that the size of the Sony-Cybershot DSC-F505 is the central, strongest point while perhaps the weakest would be the lack of time available to you unless you have multiple batteries prepared due to the limited strength of movie expended power from a battery on this small camera. However, with the AC adaptor, the camera seems to work just as well for the situation except for the one-up attribute I personally feel is creative and innovational when having so many possibles with use of the "ROTATING LENS" -which is similar in music to the 'blues' in having one basic chord structure but getting as much information as possible out of those chosen chords [if on a stringed-instrument] as an analogy to photography essence when getting the most performance and use out of the smallest amount of components and programming which Sony has magnificently done with the Sony-Cyber Shot family. i love this camera. it's sleek, professional and all in one. I dislike that it didn't come with a manual and a dead battery that I have to replace.
