The box that it came in is a work of art. The manual it came with was about 90% another language, so you are stuck with pictures in most cases, but that isn't much of an issue if you're phone-savvy. (This phone came unlocked, not T-mobile locked, so it had to come from another country). The charger plugs into a euro wall socket, and it's USB-micro on the phone end, so it won't work with your USB-mini chargers. That's an easy fix, though, and if you don't have an adapter or a U.S. charger yet, you can start charging it from your computer with the included USB cable for USB-micro devices. This phone was absolutley brand new and all the wrappers were still on everything. The back of the battery case has the T-mobile name and logo, but it is indeed unlocked. When I turned on the phone, everything was in another language. However, when I inserted my AT&T SIM card, it automatically switched to english - sweet! I had to set the time to auto-detect first, then the time was right. Regarding the touch dial-pad with haptic feedback, I thought it worked very well. It was easy to hit the right button, and the feeling like you're kind of pushing into the phone is neat. Better than many small keypads for texting too, as these are well spaced, and it's pretty easy to feel when you are clicking the button. The morphing keypad switched to the right mode very quickly when you turned on the camera or mp3 player. Yes, the 3/4 scroll wheel starts out pretty awkward - hard to aim it to the right menu button. But most of the time you just use the D-pad unless you are scrolling through a longer list, and then the wheel is fine. It also seems like the keypad won't break or wear out like keypads with buttons often do. The side-mounted power/lock switch is unique and works well (powering down is more definite than holding down the end key for awhile like on other phones, and locking/unlocking the phone with the other side of the switch is quicker and easier than the button combo you have to do on other bar phones). Camera quality actually isn't half bad for a 2meg, considering it's TINY. Haven't tried the music yet, but the top-mounted 3.5mm jack is nice for when it's in your pocket, and the external speakers are also nice and loud if you want to use those. Menus aren't as slow as others say they are - on mine the lag times aren't that bad. I don't care at all about the lack of 3G, as I never use the internet on my phone and I don't have a data plan. If you do use the internet sometimes, EDGE is alright. T-mobile Web settings are included, as well as a few others, but if you have AT&T, you have to input them manually. Pretty easy to find those, though, if you've done it before. Overall, I think it's an awesome phone that packs a lot of stuff in a small package. It looks great, too, and that's always a plus.Read full review
I bought this phone because my RAZR had seen better days and I'm not too keen on anything T-Mobile is offering right now. I took a chance and bought this unlocked ROKR because I love the look of it and it'll do what I need: calling, texting, picture messages. The phone I received must've been from Europe because the default time zone is London. Also, some of the words are spelled in the "classic" English such as colour and customisation, instead of color and customization. It also came with the euro-style wall plug-in charger, but included an adaptor for the American outlets. Either way, it's pretty easy to figure that stuff out and it didn't slow me down at all. Just kinda weird to see. Anywho, put my T-Mobile SIM card in it and got going. Calls worked fine, texts worked fine, picture messages DID NOT. Long story short, it took multiple hours in online chat with T-Mobile tech support plus a few visits to a T-Mobile store to get it figured out. Not totally sure what it was, but I think it had something to do with there not being T-Mobile software previously installed in it. I greatly appreciate how much time they put into it to help me get it figured out. I've been with them for 5+ years now and understood I was chancing it by buying an unlocked phone, but they helped me figure it out anyway. Was kinda skeptical at first and was somewhat regretting my decision. Now that it's working I think I'll be more than satisfied with it. As far as phone performance goes, I'd agree with some that it is kind of slow. Feels like an older computer, but I'm getting used to it. Pictures are pretty good quality, at least for me. Coming from a RAZR with a crappy camera, tho. Has an SD slot, which I've never had before. Also can use MP3's as ringtones, again something I've never had until now. I guess I'm a little behind the times but my RAZR has worked great until recently and I don't find it necessary to have the latest/"greatest" crap out there. It's got a 3.5mm headphone jack, too, so you don't have to use those chincy made-for-cellphone-headphones only. Overall I'd say it's a cool phone. I'd give it an excellent rating but I'm factoring in my troubles with the picture messages and the slow processing speed. Can't beat the price ($110) to get a stellar new phone and no commitment, tho.Read full review
I brought a MotoRokr E8 about two weeks ago and this phone really sorprise me. It have a lot of features, good price and an overall good performace. Is a linux based firmware, is a little heavy for this phone, so you have to get at least some patiente. The battery's life is really good, with full use, it takes around one day and a half. If you doesn't are a enthusiastic user, this phone can be used by two days and a half without any charge. Is great that the phone charges over USB cable. The camera is normal, and the only that I cannot get is a zoom. But that's not my interest. The price is the best, It is around $130, really nice for a phone with good cualities that this. The keypad is really great. Apears that is a touch pad, it comes hard when the phone is shutdown, and is really soft whens the phone is up. It have a combination of lights, that disapear/appears when the phone is in different functions. To access to the call menu, you have to touch the answer button. That's a tip, because, I take around to days to find it, lol. The desing is perfect, is a bar, with a lot of details, like ROKR logo in the below of the case, another observation is the screen is really clear and with great colors. You can put any image, that the screen takes the rest of the work. I'd recommend the phone to any motorola's fans.Read full review
I enjoyed my E2 so much that I wanted to keep with the same brand. However, there were minor changes with this one that makes me miss the E2. One big difference is when you are on camera mode there is no easy way to switch to video mode like in the E2. On the E2, the memory card storage was on the side for easy removal and inserting of the memory card. On the E8, you must take the back off to remove and insert the memory card. E2 had flash, E8 doesnt. Like I said its the small things, but I had my E2 over 3 years and had gotten use to it. E2 had voice recognition, it didnt always work but E8 doesnt have it. I do like the slimmer design and the camera button. I was hoping for more of the same of the E2 and the E8 just didnt do it. Its almost a step back on accessibility of many of the options. If the memory card slot was on the side, and easy to move from pic to video mode, would have made this much better than the E2. As of now I am giving it an average rating, just because it seems a step back from the E2...Read full review
This phone is great, aside from having a 2gb internal memory. it's easy to use the picture viewer offers abunch of features most phones only let you see a picture this one lets you manipulate it, the video player allows you to watch all your favorite videos one after the other without having to press a single button, mp3 player is great and even better with the aide of windows media player, phone contacts are easy to reach be it by typing out the name or it guesses the number by the keys that you hit, there aren't enough words to describe how wonderful this phone really is, but i can tell you for the money this is barnone the best phone you can buy, also wanted to add that i tried a 8gb memory card on it and it worked like a charm.
