Having traversed my way through myriad new phones only to find them all cheaply made, overpriced and having a lifespan of about 6 months, I decided to go "old school" and go back to the Treo I owned some 2 years ago. It is a solid device that can withstand the daily rigors of my travels. It syncs directly with my Windows PC (Outlook, Media, etc.), has Blue Tooth AND IR,and it offers a full sized SD card slot. And it just feels like a phone, not a toy. It uses the Windows Mobile OS, a touch/tap screen and at it's inception, was years ahead of the Mac alternative (iPods/iPhones). It resembles the Pocket PC's that I have used (and still do) and presents a familiar & easy to use interface. Battery life is excellent and changing batteries (I always travel with a spare) is effortless. Having this device may seem too old school for some- those slaves to the latest and "greatest", but if you are looking for a phone that is more like a very small laptop, I highly recommend this one. The only dislike that I can register is that it uses Internet Explorer for it's browser, which sometimes renders web pages full sized and therefore hard to read, but enough of the sites that I visit have Mobile or Phone rendered pages and this more than makes up for it.Read full review
Nothing about the Palm Treo 800 is mind blowing or cutting edge. That being said, its probably the most under appreciated phone I've ever used. Windows 6.1 is easy to use and this phone handles it well. Texting is breeze and its touch screen is rather responsive with the stylus. Wifi works better than the wifi on my Blackberry Curve 8530, by that I mean it has better range. The camera is decent, the media player is awesome, and the expansion slot allows for up to 8 more gigs of memory for storage....Its a very solid and well made phone. Unlike the newer Palms and Blackberries, it can take a fall or two and not be destroyed. Now that's all the good things, it is not all a bed of roses. If the battery happens to drain completely it takes forever for it to get enough juice to power back on. I say "forever" but what I mean is 30 to 45 minutes sometimes, which seems like forever if you are in the middle of something. But I found if you charge it every night it easily makes it through a 12- 16 hour day of medium usage..... Also this isn't the most stylish phone either, if fact its kind of brick like, but that's the trade off for being so solid I guess. It does lag every once in a while, but I found a simple battery pull to free up internal memory does the trick. (Like rebooting you computer ladies and gentleman) Here is my bottom line on this phone..... Its PREFECT for a replacement or back-up phone to get you through until your next upgrade or what have you..... IF, that is, you can get it used for under 75 bucks or so here on Ebay. Spending any more than that and you might want to get a Treo Pro or Blackberry 8330. Its also a great phone for a teenagers first smart phone. Its solid, it will take a beating, its great for texting, and with its touch screen and windows 6.1 operating system, its still "cool" enough for them not to be embarrassed to use it. (which all of us parents know is the really important thing anyway) That's my two cents hope this helps.Read full review
I love this phone. It is my first of this type so I have nothing to compare it with. My phone was a gift and came with three batteries. Yes it does drain batteries fast if you don't close down apps from the Task Manager. My pet peeve is the speaker. It is not worth a darn. Also there is a learning curve jumping from phone to PDA. The camera is great and I use it for headshots and quickies for the social networks more than I do my digi-cam. It is a heavy phone, also a sturdy phone. I have dropped it a couple of times. Also went out in rain and it gave me a bit of a fit, but came back tried and true after drying out. But, just in case, I just bought another one. The new phone works on WIFI and hasn't even been activated with my carrier. I plan to leave it that way for now. Neat little computer and comes with many Windows apps. I love this phone. One was a charm, but now two is heaven. ;-DRead full review
I titled it this b/c these are the only two PDA phones I have owned. There are pros and cons to both! Treo: Love the today screen Love the touchscreen Love the calendar and how it makes you aware of your appointments My exchange email work on the treo Curve: Love the stability of the phone Love the camera Love the quality when talking on the phone I truly think that if I had purchased the Treo first I would have never bought the curve and would have nothing to compare it to. If palm and black berry would unite that would be awesome. I hope this review helps anyone planning on purchasing a black berry or a palm. On one more note b/c the biggest complaint I have seen is about the Treo 800's battery life, I say to those who have complained they must have beign using the internet a whole bunch my batter lasts all day, and I use the internet, email, and calendar constantly. My Treo also charges in about 45 minutes with a full charge. It really is a very neat phone.Read full review
We used this phone with our office staff from the time it first came out about two years ago until a month ago and were very impressed with it. Obviously technology changes and builds upon strengths and weaknesses of predecessors, so we felt we needed to finally upgraded. The Palm Treo 800w is a solid phone. While it probably wouldn't be able to be thrown across the room and come out alright, it took several small falls and continued to work fine. The upload and download speeds when using the internet are slow though. So as a phone and an organizer, this phone works well. But if you're using it to surf the internet, might want to try a different phone.
Just got this phone as a backup, the seller used it as a backup as well LOL. Would have been nice if he included a charger with it but it is what it is. It is running Windows Mobile 6.1 which is perfectly fine for the phone's specs. It has a decent processor to run programs without significant lag. I like this phone better than the Palm Centro since the keys are bigger and the OS is definitely better. WiFi, GPS, BT round out the features on this rather outdated hardware. Still a good phone.
The phone itself is alright. I like the Windows Mobile software. However there is no input for a mic and the battery does not last very long at all but it only takes an hour to fully charge. Also, this is isn't so much an issue as a let down but, there is so much on this phone because it is meant for email and internet and GPS and business. It is a good tool for organizing things if you have a busy life but I barely used any of this. I just text, call, and take pictures. But thats just me. Aside from the phone itself, the buyer, Abedies, did not send me an operating phone the first time. It was dead on arrival . But that wouldn't have been a problem if he also hadn't sent me the wrong wall charger. He then preceded to tell me to plug the phone into my car charger and leave my car on for an hour. As idiotic as that sounds, I tried it. No charge. This also shows he send me a broken battery. Rather than immediately telling me to send it back, he just emailed me saying things like, did you leave it charge for a awhile? or, maybe the car needs to be on longer. Finally after several days of not having a phone, i sent it back and got another one with a charger. So i do not recommend him for buying phone but i do recommend the phone itself for those who need a device to organize their busy lives.Read full review
I'm no techie.. this is a low tech review. Have had the Treo 700wx on the Sprint Network for almost 2 years. I bought it used and haven't looked back. This phone is easy to figure out, doesn't have those annoying 'rolling screen' probs that plague other phones, and despite my low-tech knowledge I use this phone to its fullest capabilities. Love the accessibility of the keyboard, adore the the voice command that speaks when I get a phone call. I get a kick out of hearing the phone proclaim "Phone call from "Dave" at work" whenever someone calls me. I use the internet on the phone daily and it is fast and easy to manuever. I have my Outlook synched up with it, and I get my messages with ease. Swithing between text and email is super easy. I don't need to pay for Sprint Naviagtion cuz the google map application I have on it is quick and dependable. A 'must have' for me is a touch screen and this one is super easy to work with-- few tiny areas that are too big for my fingers. But, I do rock the stylus when necessary. I use the calendar quite a bit-- its not perfect, but it's close. The weight and shape of the phone are comfortable. My used phone from 2 years ago( I figure it is probably about 4 years old) is giving out on me now. I've dropped it nearly every day, lol, and the sound is no longer dependable. My next phone will also be a Treo 700wx-- I'm so happy with this one, that all the phones I researched just don't compare favorably. I'm sticking with my Treo 700wx, I love this phone. Hopefully I'll quit dropping it soon, LOL. These suckers aren't cheap!Read full review
I have suffered from Smartphonanecrosy with my Samsung ACE for the last year and a half. Because I am stuck in a two year contract, the only way to change was pay full price for a phone. I was mad at my phone and mad at my provider. I now know the ACE has one of the lowest customer ratings of all Sprint phones. Years ago, my husband gave me a Palm PDA which I really like and which still works handily. So, I thought I would give this Palm Treo a try, especially since it has a bit of an external antenea as connectivity at home is a problem with the ACE and other phones I have tried. Finally, cured. It works like a charm, has the Windows OS, is so intuititive. It does what I want, not what it wants. Needs very little charging, has a very powerful battery and signal, auto shut-off and easy turn-on so that you can talk, throw it in your purse, and easily answer again. The only negative is that the camera is 1.3mg and the pictures are not good at all, BUT, hey, this phone is five years old and used. Want good photos, get a camera.Read full review
I've owned several Palm Treo's, this being my first 700wx series. Although this particular modal is slightly heavier and has a visible antenna showing, unlike the 755, it does what you need it to. Running Windows Mobile 5, this PDA can handle email, documents, games and more. Bluetooth helps quickly connect you when on the go, and browsing the net is easy and flawless. I had mine fully flashed to use on the cricKet network, only losing ability to send/receive picture messages. Otherwise, I can do anything the Treo can do on a more expensive network like Sprint. If you are looking for an affordable phone/pda, I say give the Treo 700wx a try.
