Before cargo vans became the go-to vehicles for many small businesses and tradespeople, panel trucks were the preferred choice for getting work done. The restomod 1957 Chevy panel truck recently sold on eBay recalls that era with vintage sheet metal coated in an attractive patina. A modern powertrain and other upgrades made it ready for daily driver duties.

Cavernous Cargo Area
From the windshield forward, the ‘57 Chevy panel truck is virtually identical to a Chevy pickup truck of the same era. But the panel truck has an enclosed storage area behind the front seats instead of a conventional pickup bed. The cavernous cargo area is like that of a modern van, but in a more stylish package.
Dual rear barn doors provide easy access for loading and unloading. Wall-to-wall carpeting gives the cargo area a warmer feel and quiets the cabin.
The interior retains a businesslike appearance with comfort and style improvements. New bucket seats are upholstered in two-tone brown leather, matching the door trim. New driver controls include a three-spoke wood-rimmed tilt steering wheel and a modern instrument cluster. The headliner also appears to be new.
Vortec Swap
The biggest changes were under the Chevy panel truck's aged sheet metal. A modern GM fuel-injected 5.3-liter Vortec V-8 replaced the truck’s original engine, which was likely a Chevrolet Jobmaster or Thriftmaster inline-six or Trademaster 265-inch V-8. An automatic transmission sends power to a swapped-in Camaro rear end. Lowering the suspension gives the truck a more aggressive stance.

A Wile E. Exterior
The panel truck’s unique exterior treatment included recent two-tone turquoise and white paint finished to look like it spent decades in the elements. Acme Explosive Corp. livery decorates the sides, a nod to Wile E. Coyote’s favored mayhem supplier.
Beyond that, the look is largely stock, as one might expect after many years of service. Numerous blemishes and a few small dents add to the convincing look without reducing the truck’s appeal. All original trim and badging remain in place, and the Chevy panel truck's body appeared to be solid overall. This affordably priced restomod project was ready for the next owner to add their own touches.
