Mosler is not a household name. But in the world of automotive performance dominated by the likes of Ferrari or Porsche, Mosler holds its own as a world-class supercar. Adding to the mystique, it’s nearly impossible to find a Mosler M900. This one-of-a-kind GTR model, now for sale on eBay - opens in new window or tab., pushes things to another level: the folks at Intense Automotive Design in Los Angeles, Calif. extensively reworked the car to make it a one-off monster.

The Mosler story began in Florida in 1985 when Warran Mosler started Consulier Industries, which would go on to produce the Consulier GTP supercar. In 1993, the company spun off its automotive interests under the name Mosler Automotive and began developing an entirely new chassis, which would yield the MT900 in 2001.
Riding on a carbon fiber chassis, this rear wheel drive supercar was powered by a warmed-over version of Chevrolet’s LS1 V8. Over the years, the modularity of GM’s drivetrain designs meant that the MT900 could evolve alongside GM’s engine developments for cars like the Corvette and Camaro. By 2005, the LS6-powered MT900S shattered a host of production car records for braking and acceleration. This included the vaunted 0-100-0 mph test, which it accomplished in a mere 10.98 seconds—besting the previous record of 11.15 that was held by the legendary McLaren F1 LM.

And yet the 2009 IAD Land Shark—as this modified M900 GTR is now called—goes several steps further. The seller reports that more than 20,000 hours of research and development when into the eight-year process of modifying this M900. The results speak for themselves. The listing notes: “The roof structure is a total of 20 layers of 3x3 twill carbon-fiber, yielding a safety cell that proved to be the strongest structure the crash-testing agency had ever tested.”

Since its creation in 2009, the IAD Land Shark made the rounds at SEMA, the Los Angeles Auto show, numerous car shows, and was featured in the 2011 feature film, The Green Hornet.
What’s more, the seller reports that the IAD Land Shark’s drivetrain components can be tailored to the next owner’s preferences. An optional seven-speed flat-shift sequential gearbox with a triple-disc carbon fiber clutch system and paddle shifters is available to be outfitted to the IAD Land Shark—if the buyer is looking for lightning-fast, 30 millisecond shifts. And if managing the four-digit horsepower figures through the rear wheels sounds like a bridge too far, there’s an available all-wheel drive system available as well.

Of course all this performance and exclusivity doesn’t exactly come cheap. It’s listed with a “But It Now” price of $750,000. But if you want to stand out in the crowd, run at the front of the pack, and guarantee that you’ll never have a doppelganger at the local Cars and Coffee meetup, this Mosler IAD Land Shark - opens in new window or tab. will do the trick.
