The car in the movie isn't the same one owned by Dr. Dre back in the day, but it's still an interesting—and hard-to-find—piece of automotive cinematic history. The vehicle was leased by the producers of Straight Outta Compton from Blackhorse Motor Sports, run by Carl Steuer. He made a name for himself in the world of Ferrari restorations, setting record prices for cars like the Ferrari 365 2+2. The Testarossa from the film was given a complete cosmetic restoration, with reupholstered dashboard and seats—and the sticky plastics that plague most 1980s-era Ferraris returned to like-new condition. Mechanically, the car is completely stock, which means the car comes with a 4.9-liter 12-cylinder engine pushing out 390 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque, accessible via the car's gated five-speed manual shifter.
It’s no surprise that there's a link between the Miami Vice television series and the car that rapper/producer/impresario Dr. Dre purchased as soon as he hit the big time in the early 1990s.
