How to Join the Vibrant (And Very Big) Community of Ford Mustang Fans

Television host and racing analyst Rutledge Wood and his crew kicked off the “On The Road with eBay Motors” project in May 2017—setting the goal of a making a bare-bones ’67 Mustang Fastback go faster, handle better, and look amazing. The car rebuild has traveled coast to coast to four of the nation’s premier auto enthusiast events and will be revealed in its final form at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas (Oct. 31 – Nov. 3). The tour tapped into a vibrant, big, global Mustang community that stays connected year-round via web forums and regional gatherings.

Mustang fans are always connected online, where they swap stories and help each other solve technical issues. And all across America, they get together in person with fellow pony-car pals at Mustang clubs where they trade tips and tricks. How can you tap into the Mustang community?

An exceptional numbers-matching classic Mustang, like this one listed on eBay Motors, can fetch 10 times more than its original price. Online forums are a great place to discuss the merits of specific vehicles.

The Mustang Club of America

The Mustang Club of America (MCA) started in 1976 when it held its first Grand National meeting at Stone Mountain Park, a few miles east of Atlanta. The club was formed to support first-generation Mustangs, initially excluding the controversial Mustang II. In 1986, the club’s Board of Directors expanded support to all model year Mustangs.

There are three MCA national shows and one so-called Grand National Show each year. The 2018 show schedule consists of these events:

The MCA now represents more than 12,000 members nationally, with more than 170 affiliated regional clubs providing an estimated reach of about 40,000 local members. There are also international MCA-affiliated clubs in far flung locations including Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Italy, Malta, and Taiwan. Corporate sponsors include Ford, Shelby, Roush, and BFGoodrich.

Mustang Owners Club members resisted the acceptance of 1974+ vehicles. But the Board of Directors now allows newer models. Could this 1978 King Cobra II listed on eBay Motors become highly sought after in the coming years?

The online Mustang community is large and diverse. While independent website-based forums were once the primary driver, the rise of Facebook created another way for the community to connect with one another.

The long list of Mustang forums includes:

Facebook Groups, Reddit, and Pages

You’ll find Mustang clubs from all over the world on Facebook, with pages representing Great Britain, Finland, New Zealand, Singapore, Tunisia, and UAE. Facebook also hosts groups for specific models. There are pages for the Mach 1, Bullitt, and Warriors in Pink special-edition Mustangs, in addition to Saleen and Shelby.

Reddit’s Mustang thread has nearly 25,000 enthusiasts.

Whether you’re in the midst of a new build, hunting down the solution to a mechanical issue, or contemplating a purchase, the wisdom of the crowds can be priceless.
