With the 1991 Mercedes-Benz sauna on wheels now offered on eBay, you’ll have ready access to refreshing health treatment available wherever you travel. Seller Bryan White, who is based near Philadelphia, says the rounded wooden sauna with Finnish-made Harvia oven is brand-new and never used.
The sauna—built just last year in Russia and mounted on the truck—is removable, and can be operated anywhere. “Park it behind your house, or take it on the road,” said White, who imported the novel truck-sauna from Germany.
The sauna is brand new, with Russian construction and a Finnish oven.
The three-room sauna is made from glued wooden beams, with a bathtub from selected pine needles—dried to eight percent humidity. There are two layers of protective wood treatments. Equipment includes two shelves and a linden-or-aspen trapeze on the floor of each room. The Harvia M2 oven burns wood chips (not included).
The steam room is 20.5 square feet, the washing room 14 square feet, and the anteroom 19.4 square feet. The whole sauna is 16.4 feet long. The water tank holds 13.2 gallons.
The sauna is fully equipped and ready to go.
The stones for the oven are included. Ventilation is adjustable, and the wood-and-glass door comes with handles and locks. An electrical kit, with lighting, is provided, but the sauna doesn’t have to be connected to electricity to work.
The truck is a 1991 Benz 410D, with a 95-horsepower, 2.9-liter diesel engine of the type used in the 300D automobile. It’s connected to a five-speed manual, and features brand-new tires and a beige leather interior. The seller says the truck, which has 48,400 miles on the odometer, was fully restored inside and out. “It runs excellent,” he said.
The oven burns wood chips.
White said he is “testing the waters” with this eBay auction. If there’s a lot of interest in portable saunas, he’ll bring more over to the U.S.
The sauna is equipped for maximum relaxation. But don’t take a sauna while the truck is in motion.
Mobile saunas are also the rage in British Columbia, Canada. The BC Mobile Sauna Society will rent you a unit, or build one to your specifications. Sauna-mobiles already have a following in Europe, particularly Finland, which hosts the annual mobile sauna festival in rural Teuva—attracting approximately 50 examples each year. There are saunas mounted on trailers, saunas built into phone booths, saunas installed in military vehicles, and horse-drawn saunas.
