The Acura NSX sports car shook up the sports car establishment when it debuted in 1990. Twenty-five years later, the upcoming second-generation 2017 Acura NSX supercar promises to shake things up again—not only with dazzling new powertrain technology, but with how it’s using the power of indie filmmaking to support a great cause: the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
An early copy of the 2017 Acura NSX supercar is on display at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, which kicked off in Park City, Utah last week. The hood of the 573-horsepower beast is being signed by the biggest celebrities at Sundance. That sleek hood, mounted as a unique piece of automotive and cinematic art, will go to the highest bidder in an eBay charity auction - opens in new window or tab..

“Acura is dedicated to supporting the creative community because we share its passion to challenge convention and it inspires us with its craft," said Susie Rossick, Acura’s associate vice-president, regional media and marketing. “Acura has an independent spirit. We believe that our customers are motivated by passion and a strong desire to make an impact.”
Proceeds for the auction will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the world's largest non-profit funder of childhood brain tumor research. The group has served more than 28,000 families with support programs.
The Sundance of Supercars
When the original NSX launched, it instantly made every supercar that had preceded it look like a Michael Bay spectacle—loud and brash. Its use of lightweight materials and Formula One racing technology was considered revolutionary. The NSX emerged as the smart indie choice, a thinking person’s sports car described by Acura’s engineers as an F1 car for the road.
The canopy of the NSX was inspired by an F-16 fighter jet, to give the driver superior panoramic visibility.

Like the original, the new 2017 NSX is powered by a V6, but updated with a quarter-century's worth of new technology. This time around, the V6 is twin-turbocharged, longitudinally mounted and hybrid-powered—using three electric motors to help deliver a wallop of nearly 600 total horsepower.

The shape of the sheet metal is different, but still imbued with original’s outstanding panoramic visibility. “The NSX team worked with engineers who developed the original NSX,” said Rossick. “It ensures the next-generation supercar maintained NSX's timeless sports car values."
Ordering for the 2017 Acura NSX, with a starting price of $156,000, begins in late February. The cars will each be built-to-order. But discerning compassionate auto aficionados don’t have to wait to own a piece of what promises to be an instant classic supercar—while supporting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in the process.
