Right around 1959 and 1960 automotive styling, at least in terms of tailfins and chrome, was reaching new heights with many manufacturers leaving behind the influences from aviation. Cadillac’s tailfins of the Series 62 and Eldorado Seville were arguably some of the most iconic, and Chevrolet’s Impala and El Camino also featured wild rear end designs. Thus, Ford was up against some tough competition and needed to step its styling to keep up demand in the showrooms, especially against the ostentatious shapes coming from the General Motors design studios.

So in 1960 Ford came out with the redesigned and sleeker looking 1960 Ford Galaxie conjuring up imagery of the 1950’s and 1960’s space race. It could be argued that model year of that one nameplate is somewhat special or unique because, like the 1959 Cadillac, it was a one-year only design. In the 1950’s many manufacturers would update styling as often as possible to differentiate and inspire new sales. So as time has progressed, these one-year only model trim changes became less and less common due to costs of retooling, amongst other reasons.

When you consider that a 1960 Ford Galaxie is a one-year only design, the fact that this car is over fifty years old without the rust that claims many similar vintage vehicles, finding this Skymist Blue Galaxie Sunliner is rare indeed. While a '59 Cadillac is commonly known as the cool late 1950’s, early 1960’s cruiser, this Ford Galaxie is often overlooked, but is an equally hip ride.
What really clinched this car for us besides its obvious rarity and great condition was that this writer’s father pines for a nearly identical light blue and white 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner. Summarily, everything comes together -- the color combination, the interior, the wide white walls, and overall condition of this beautiful convertible. We highly doubt we will be the only ones with an appreciation of this 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner, so we can’t wait to see what it will go for.
