I first encountered the Harmon Kardon HK-195 satellite speaker while I was serving on the USS Abraham Lincoln, in 1999. The ship had just installed new computers, servers, and speakers for these computers. So we sailors naturally stored MP3 on our 250MB zip disks, quite a lot for those days. And played it on our frequent 6-month tours. And the sound from those computers? Absolutely fantastic. I took note of those speakers. HK-195. They cost quite a lot brand-new (about $50 or so). Now I have had occasion to purchase seven pairs of these beauties and they are even better-sounding than I remember. There's the bass and treble controls, the crisp sound and thumping bass coming from a single 3" speaker. But there's more! You also have a headphone jack and, not shown in the picture, a monaural jack in the back for a subwoofer! I am going to test the subwoofer with a 6" speaker later. But for my money (about $25 a pair, including shipping), these are the best bargain you can get.Read full review

Thankfully this person had hung on to all the original packaging, so I got a close-to-new set of these speakers. I had a pair of them for probably 20 years and left them powered up connected to my computer all that time, but finally they died. So hopefully, that won't happen to these. I'm trying to remember to turn off the power once in awhile to hopefully lengthen their useful life.

I'm not sure why the picture shows the "flat top" HK speakers. This is for the HK195 speakers that have a more pointed top than the picture associated with this reviews page. There is a difference between the sound of the "flat top" HK speakers pictured above and the HK195's that have the more pointed top. This review is for the HK195's with the more pointed top. Ever since working with a company in 1999 that had these speakers on all their desktops, I've enjoyed listening to these speakers. They give a very nice audio experience, warm and enveloping sound. So much so that when I needed a set of speakers years later, I bought a set on Ebay. Whether listening to an MP3 player, playing computer games, or listening to music from any source, I have ALWAYS been impressed. In my experience these are THE best set of speakers for less than $20, nothing else has come even close to enjoying music in that price range. A really neat feature of these speakers is the 'subwoofer out' on the back panel. I don't think it's any different than the headphone out on the front panel because the instructions specify it's full-range output. Anyway, for fun I hooked the subwoofer out directly to a 2nd set of these and it sounds good, but you can hook anything, a 2nd set of headphones even, up to the output on the back.Read full review
These little speakers are just great for video and audio editing. Quality is good enough to use these except as a last pass approval and scrutinization viewing - and even then, I myself trust these little HKs!

Speakers were new in the box and deliver great quality sound, no surprise with Harman/Kardon. The are the old style no longer in production (I think). Well worth over a hundred dollars, I paid much less. I had a set of these years ago and was happy to find them still online
