I recently bought a scooba, i must admit that i wasn't very sure wether buying it or not. But since the dollar is now so low, and I'm in Europe, it wouldn't cost me more than an ordinary vacuum cleaner, so I decided to go on and buy it. The Good: -It really cleans the floor, WAY better than the ordinary way, I used the scooba right after mopping it, and i felt ashamed to see that the water was so dark!! It shines and the best of all, using clorox, leaves a great odour in the room, so fresh and clean! I thought it was a marketing trick when i saw the ad on youtube, but is totally true, we will never leave the floor as clean as the scooba leaves it! -It reaches all the major parts of the room, and cleans even under the beds and hard to reach places. I just love this, for only cleaning under the beds is worth buying it. -It makes noise, but not as much as i expected by reading other reviews, makes no more noise than an ordinary vacuum cleaner, not disturbing at all. -It doesn't use bags, you also have a vacuum cleaner (a scooba is a vacuum clenaer + a mopping robot), and uses water instead of a bag. -The design, its just beautiful, its small, can be placed anywhere even as a decoration element. All the visits love it, to see how it cleans by itself and how beautiful it is. -You dont have to care much about maintenance during the mopping process, just change the tank water in case that it is very dirty. It will stop and ask you to change it, you don't need to care about it. -Its so easy to use! Even my grandmom (I bought it for her) who suffers alzheimer, is able to turn it on. Now the bad things: -The battery, it doesn't last very long, one battery cleans just one room, fortunately you don't need to mop them everyday. Scooba leaves them so clean that you only need to mop the room once a week, instead once every two days (as i used to do). It also takes quite long to recharge, but well, this is a bottleneck of all the technologies today, not just the scooba, it also happens with our laptops, mobile phones... Hope someone solves this issue someday. -It doesn't reach corners or borders or under certain type of chairs or some narrow places, you will have to move them yourself and "prepare" the room to be "scoobed". -Leaves the floor too wet, if you live in place with moisture like my country, it will take a while until it dries up, you wouldn't be able to enter the room if the scooba has just been mopping it. -Virtual walls are not virtual straight walls, are virtual "corners", i mean, if you place a virtual wall somewhere it wouldn't "draw" a virtual straight line, it will draw something like a big V. -When it has just mopped a room and you take it, it will leave some dirt under it you will have to clean yourself, it will also leave water in the places where you store it (I don't have a rubber mat yet to place it). -It uses 125 instead of 220, so being in Europe i need another adaptor, not just the scooba adaptor, i need to transform our 220 to the 125 of the scooba adaptor, so bad! So how would i improve it: -Longer lasting battery (way longer than now! and faster-charging) -Maybe larger water tank -Some way to clean corners, this is very important. -Some mechanism to avoid leaving dirt in the place where it "finished" the work -Making it more "robotical" and forcing it to place and recharge itself when the work is done. In general, would i buy it again? Yes, one thousand times. Its not perfect, but its worth every single centRead full review
Executive Summary Positives: No more back pain As my son says “Scooba is a hard worker” No need to sweep small dirt particles and dust Can use cleaning solution or plain white vinegar Easy to use (simple buttons to start up and troubleshoot) Fun to watch More free time Negatives: Difficult time getting corners and edges Required clean up Four hour normal charge time (not supposed to leave plugged in) Expensive Positive and Negative: Can get under difficult to clean under areas Sometimes decides to end the cleaning cycle under difficult to get to areas Can get stuck under difficult to get to areas Virtual Wall Full Review: The entire bottom level of our apartment is tile. While this seemed like a great amenity when we first moved in, mopping the floor became a hated household chore. When I first got the Scooba, I was excited to try it out. (That sounds weird, my son and I like to refer to Scooba as “him”). The first charge wasn’t a few hours like I expected, but was for a full 16 hours. The Scooba is somewhat like the Roomba in that it also picks up dust and dirt, etc. I prepped the room like I normally would for mopping (moving chairs, trash can, etc.) and also swept any large food particles under the table. Then I set Scooba loose. It was fascinating to say the least and I didn’t think that it would be able to get the entire room, but was happily surprised to see that the Scooba eventually made its way around the entire room. The floor was dirt free and I would say the floor was a 9/10. I had to use a paper towel around the edges a bit (considering Scooba is round) and a couple of very difficult spots were still slightly visible. Overall though, I was very impressed. I don’t know if this is just me, but the virtual seemed difficult to figure out exactly where it was working. One side is supposed to be a straight line, but the other side is supposed to be angled to tell it not to go into the other area. I couldn’t figure it out and tried moving it on different sides, but the Scooba thought there was a wall where there wasn’t supposed to. I guess I will just have to try to figure it out better, I wish it was just a straight line to block it off or had a visual light to let us know what it was putting out. I need to try this more before I can say if it is a positive or negative. I like that instead of putting dirty water all over the floor like you do when mopping, Scooba always puts out a clean water solution and then sucks it up into the dirty tank. Then you aren’t progressively mopping the floor with dirtier and dirtier water. Also, Scooba can use the specially formulated Clorox cleaning solution mixed with water or white vinegar mixed with water. I haven’t tried the vinegar yet. After Scooba is finished with its cleaning cycle, there are a few things necessary steps that need to be taken. The filter, brush, vacuum port need to be rinsed, and the dirty tank dumped and rinsed. This wasn’t too difficult, although the tank designs could have been better because it was difficult to get all of the water out of the tank because of the odd shape (completely removable tanks would have been better) and also when rinsing, stuff tended to come out of both sides instead of just the opening of the tank. This was a little messy. **While the manual says to leave Scooba plugged in all the time until using it, iRobot now says don't leave it plugged in**Read full review
I bought this little robot because we have many pets and 4 kids and I work 80+ hours every 2 weeks and my husband also works a lot. Between running kids to their commitments and meeting ours I thought it would be nce to be able to do two things at once. The scooba allows me to do that. It is not meant as the only means of cleaning your floor. It isn't able to get real close to the walls or if the floor is heavily soiled. Where it helps me is the pet tracks and small everyday dirt that gets on the floor. So instead of me mopping everyday to spot clean, scooba can clean a floor while I fold clothes, cook dinner, or even while we sleep. If you have a busy life style than this just might be the friend for you. I also have the roomba and they are both great help!!!
Once I figured out how to work the Scooba, I think I am going to really like it. Opening the tank was a challange on the first day I got it. My directions said to pull up on the handle. Well I pulled and pulled and was afraid I was going to break the plastic, so I contacted iRobot Technical Support on the Internet and found out that you absolutely do not pull...you PUSH on the handle while pressing down on the bottom of the tank and it pops right open. (duh!) How simple was that. Scooba also got stuck in two places in my kitchen, which since then I have fixed and now it's a happy little camper! It's so cute...when it got stuck, it beeped and a little light came on that said 'I'm Stuck'. I had cleaned my floor in advance of using the Scooba, but when I emptied the dirty water tank, the water was almost black. I was impressed!!!!! I have four Shetland Sheep dogs (Shelties) and that afternoon it rained and when I let the dogs in, I had 16 little paw prints all over the dining room and kitchen floors...it was a mess....Scooba cleaned those up perfectly! Not a trace of any paw prints, dust, dirt, grime, etc. I love my Scooba now! Thank you iRobot! I just ordered your Roomba for the living room and bed room carpets. I'm sure I'll love it too. If you have a really huge area to clean, I suppose Scooba might be worth it. But if you're just cleaning the kitchen and dining area a few times a week, it's really not that helpful. I bought this product because: 1) I love gadgets, and 2) I have a baby and a toddler, so the floor gets very messy every day. 3) I don't have time to mop the kitchen every day, but I'd love to have a robot doing it for me Pros: 1) It's pretty cool to have a robot that cleans the floor, and it's fun to watch 2) You can use regular vinegar and water 3) The tank is pretty easy to fill 4) Cleans hard to reach area under the china cabinet Cons: 1) You must plan ahead when you're going to clean. - It takes several hours to charge - You can't leave it plugged in all the time - It doesn't even hold a charge overnight. 2) Tank is kind of hard to empty (have to tip it back and forth a lot to get liquid out) 3) Doesn't really save time (by the time you charge Scooba, fill with water and vinegar, move the chairs out of the room, set up the invisible wall, empty, rinse and store after cleaning...you could just clean the darn floor yourself). 4) Scooba is so loud that we can't have a conversation or watch TV while it's running.Read full review
