This heater is well constructed and sealed in vinyl cover. It has adhesive pad on one side to adhere it to flat objects such as glass terrariums or in my case, the underside of a heavy rubber water dish I use in my unheated chicken coop. The low wattage (4-5 watts) is inexpensive to operate yet it puts out enough heat to keep the water bowl from freezing solid.

I bought this to give my cockatiel a warm place to rest outside of his cage. We placed it on a plant stand. We put it on wire mesh with a wire mesh on top and a piece of thin plastic on top of that. We put on a piece of newspaper to cover it all. The warmth comes through nicely and he sits there most of the day watching the birds at the feeder. Nice on a cloudy winter day.

I've had it for a couple weeks now, so I can't comment on longevity, but it keeps my 6.5" cube terrarium nice and cozy (about 80 degrees ambient air temperature, warmer on the pad glass) for my mantis.

I love these Heat Matts. Just big enough for my reptiles to get on and get warm. You dont need a big one. Your aniimals may get too hot. These are great. I raise snakes. Thanks
