This game is OK to play. I expected more from a PS2 title, but seeing as it is one of the earlier games released for the PS2 and the programmers did indeed have difficulty programming games for the machine, I can't let it hurt my rating of it too much. Specifically the graphics take a hit on this one. They are pixelated and actually remind you of the ps1 wipeout series, which were admittedly a lot better gameplay wise. When you see the "caution tape" textures on the race track surface, they look really grainy and pixelated. The checkered start/finish track surface textures also fail to excite my eyecandy desire. There are some rendering glitches with the track and vehicles, and the AI racers generally do not steer properly, with a bit of a jitteryness. There is also a bug in the race track entrance cinematic where all the vehicles seem to go back down inside of their transport lifts, but then instantly reappear like magic where they were supposed to be when the race actually starts. The vehicles don't really have the same punch when they hit an obstacle or track barrier like they do in the original PS1 wipeout titles, either. The sound is weak and uninteresting, as well as far below acceptable volume. The music is OK but generic and predictable. Aside from all this, this game is actually pretty fun to play and is easy to learn. THe tracks are well designed, and do have some decent graphics to go along with it. The vehicles look rather blocky and toy-like, but some of their designs do the original games at least some justice. You can upgrade your vehicles if you desire, which is a very good idea IMHO, but this game not is simply not as challenging as the PS1 titles. If I had to choose a wipeout game for PS2, I would definately go with the original two PS1 titles (Wipout and Wipout XL/2097), as the PS2 has excellent backwards compatibility with Playstation1 titles, especially with some of the PS2 models which have the capability to graphically render Playstation1 games in an up-scaled OpenGL mode. I will give this game a 3/5. Not bad for an early PS2 title, but I expected a lot more from the wipeout series.Read full review
This wipeout may mimic the fastness of F-Zero sometimes, but that plus weapons makes this game an absolute blast. Never in my life has a game challenged my reflexes to the milliseconds of several turns. This game is for vetetans or just really good AG pilots.

This game Wipeout has tons of problems. It has zero-energy walls if you manage to get to one which is wasy to do on some tracks you'll go right through it and fall off the track and lose your place in the race. The AI after winning a race is very stupid. After you win a race the AI hover craft will crash into walls and do other things that are not fun to deal with. Also if you enter cheat codes some of the time that you play the game Wipeout they won't work at all. Also once you unlock a surtain item in the game like if you manage to unlock the advanced missiles you can't use them in any race it relocks up on you. IF you unlock some of the games features they too will become relocked up. It's a poor game to play. I would recemmond that you buy the used playstation one wipeout games. The game is not worth buying. Also you have to watch what you are buying from this person that I got the game from. I only brought this game because I have played the other ones from PS1 and they are worth it a lot. I brought this game beacuse I thought that it was going to be better since it was on the playstation two. I recommand that you play soemthing else that most interest you then this game. Now they have those Wipeout games on the PSP try one of those.Read full review
I followed the Wipeout series from the beginning. While previous games focused on racing with weapons just used to gain small advantages, this game has placed a much larger component on the fighting and eliminating opponents aspect. While I enjoyed this aspect of the game, I found the handling of the vehicles to be lacking. Where the older versions truly had the feeling of flying above the track, the vehicle feels locked to the track at a fixed altitude in this game, giving a much more typical racing experience. I found it to be lacking.
