The state of life in the teenage nation is explored through a day in the lives of a handful of Canadian high-school kids in this independent comedy-drama. It's Friday, and the students at a school in Quebec hardly have their mind on their schoolwork, even as they deliver class presentations about the great passion of their lives. Emilie plans to throw a party at her house since her folks are away for the weekend, but things don't go quite as she hoped, much to the annoyance of her older brother. Nicolas and Steve are putting together a punk-rock band but are having a hard time coming up with the right name. Jerome is heartsick as he tries to figure out how to tell someone he loves them without looking foolish. And Pierre-Olivier is an astronomy buff who sees something deeply troubling in the fact that Pluto isn't a planet anymore. A L'OUEST DE PLUTON (aka WEST OF PLUTO) was the first feature film from writing-directing team Henry Bernadet and Myriam Verreault, who cast the film with real-life students from the school they attended in their teens.
