Superb speed, accurate data maintenance and recall - what more could you wish from data drives? Obviously at 10,000 RPM, the WDC Velociraptor outclasses the Toshiba, but that is to be expected. Performance is almost equal to a new HD, not a previously employed one. In a notebook, the Toshiba data storage and retrieval are remarkably swift and great for data intensive applications in today's high speed notebooks. Sure, one can get greater speed with digital media, but for analogue data retrieval and storage, both of these HDD's are much more than adequate - they are superior!

First HD I've seen score 6.1 on WEI, or anything above 5.9. 'Cause 64Mb? Noticeable increase in daily use speed, and also faster boot times. For when reliability and longevity means more then SSD speed. I still have a 9 yr old Velociraptor with 80,000+ hrs, working great.

You will notice the difference in performance and speed. Runs very quiet. I edit video in full HD with this hard drive with no problems with playback or anything else. If you edit video, this is for you. According to Western Digital website, this hard drive has an extremely long lifespan. I have never had any problems with Western Digital hard drives...ever! This is worth the purchase in my opinion. I don't know how well this hard drive works with video games because I don't play them but, I imagine from how well this hard drives performs, that it would be great for video games too.
Got what I paid for, don't care for high cost per GB! For single workstation use WD "VelociRaptor" - best high perf. harddrive on market. P.S. But for RAID or realiability-focused workstation with MULTIPLE drives, get something different from WD - "RE4" 500GB harddrives (over 1TB HDD's are not reliable from ANY manufacturer as f year 2013), RE4 or maybe even RE5 already (?) are specific RAID/Enteprise edition 3.5" includes RAID-optimized TLER setting, accoustic tuning, dual spindle motor & dual microcontrollers, totally quiet comparing to raptor thogh 7200RPM not 10K, SO Velociraptor OR RE4/R5, - one of these two are the best harddrives for high-end/professional use for 3.5" formfactor. For 2.5" forfactor WD makes some "SAS" (?) stuff I don't know about., I only comment on raptor & RE4.Read full review
These drives are most often found in Server Environments where performance reliability is the law. Built to a higher standard, these drives are designed to deliver superior performance 24/7 for YEARS- They are one of the few drives out there that enjoy a 5 Year Factory Warranty. Even if you're buying a used drive, you can still count on rock-solid reliability for years to come! A couple of pointers- If it's going into a standard 3.5 inch desktop mount, try to get one of these drives that has the black cradle for maximum cooling of the drive. Western Digital calls it an "Ice Pack" because it's really good at keeping the drive cool- heat is the enemy of anything electronic. Also, be advised THIS DRIVE WILL NOT WORK IN A LAPTOP. It's much thicker than a laptop drive and has a different voltage requirement- 12V instead of 5V. Bottom line: If the drive fits, buy it!Read full review
