Volunteers serving nonprofit organizations represent an important contribution to organizational success as well as client well-being. Nevertheless, research on their retention remains lacking in published literature. This research examined the effects of role-identity, both general and organizationally specific, affective commitment and the intent to leave among a sample of volunteers providing disaster relief in the United States of America.
