Originally, I thought that maybe it's because I have an aftermarket bolt, but I could not lock the bolt back. I was only able to lock it back once after 10 tries or so, and none after. I reinstalled the factory part, and the bolt locked back every single time. I then reinstalled the VQ part and it still failed to lock the bolt back. Comparing the 2 parts side by side, the VQ part that I received was about 1/16" longer than the Ruger part, but had the same 45 degree angle. After filing the VQ down to match the same length as the Ruger and being careful to match the angle, the bolt now locks back every single time. And, yes, the auto release function works. Well worth the time and effort of figuring out the issue and doing a little 'smithing to make it work.

I've seen reviews all over the internet on this Volquartsen auto bolt release saying how great they are and I also seen reviews saying the direct opposite. I installed this auto bolt release following the instructions and triple checking my work as well as making sure everything was cleaned first and a minute drop of oil where recommended and nothing but hassle trying to get the bolt to stay in the open position. After fooling with it numerous times and the bolt finally stays open, the process of the bolt releasing itself with a quick pull back of the charge handle works nicely but yeah nothing but a pain with trying to get the bolt to stay open. Watched youtube videos, read through ruger 10-22 forums on several different sites, etc etc and tried all of everyone else's steps of doing it but still does not work so simply like people are saying. And so not worth thirteen dollars for a mass produced stamped out part that's problematic. Read full review

Like many others, I got tired of fiddling with the bolt sometimes not releasing easily ... or at all. This is a very easy fix, doesn't make the firearm less safe, and you can still lock the bolt open when on the firing line. I'm sure Ruger had something in mind with the original design ... but I don't know what it would be. Some may think this part an unnecessary extra expense, but the lack of aggravation for me made the purchase worthwhile to me.

Easy installation, if you've had the trigger group apart. original package; easy replacement of OEM part. Hardest part was to make sure the spring arm was in place. Good color match for the silver receiver. Purchase was made based on positive experience with the manufacturer. Works exactly as expected. Install took less than five minutes.

This should be installed on every Ruger 10/22 - so much easier to get your gun into battery. After all these years, and after millions of sales ...why Ruger hasn't upgraded the 10/22 bolt release makes no sense at all. It certainly wouldn't be an expensive fix for them - pretty easy... so, what do you say, Ruger?
