It's a good anthology. I especially like the summaries of different periods of Latin American history and the write ups about the authors, the circumstances of their lives, and the short summaries of what one is about to read. I struggle understanding literature before the 1600's -- that's tough for a non-native speaker. Not sure if there's anything else the book could contain to help with that or not.... Otherwise, I'd recommend it.
I bought this book because it was required for my Spanish American Literature class. I really like that before each work, there was an entry that gave the author's back story, and explained some of the context under which the work was written. The different works are grouped in to different sections nicely as well.
Saved me lots of money, good book. Thank you!!

Pretty brief explanations on a lot of authors. Therefore is a good exposure if you are unfamiliar with Latin American Lit. Also gives a brief synopsis of the time periods that they are written.
This book is extremely well written and organized. If you're using it for your college Spanish Lit class, you're lucky. It is easy to follow and interesting.
