This is a Vintage Bilora Biloret Model 2017 Tripod made between the 1930s and 1950s in Germany. Despite it's age it is in excellent condition and works great! I have used a Bilora Biloret Model 1017 in the past, both tripods are identical at first glance except for the model number and the portion of the legs that extend on this model (2017) are brass. The 1017 has aluminum legs and therefore while lighter in weight, the 1017 is also more fragile in my opinion. Although I never actually damaged the 1017 and did use it, I always worried about breaking or loosing it, as it has great sentimental value to me. It belonged to my father who inherited it from a relative who passed away in 1958. When I saw this brass legged model I was delighted. My husband and I just returned from a 4 day trip to Niagara Falls where I used this tripod extensively with my Nikon DSLR. The 2017 does feel more stable and stronger than the 1017 even with a telephoto lens on my Nikon. Now you have to use common sense, this is a very compact, tripod that extends from about 10 inches to approximately 40 inches. It is not going to hold the weight of a 200 lb man like some large tripods would, but they are not easy to pack and carry either and this tripod is both easy to pack and light enough that you won't notice your camera bag being too heavy. It gave me great, steady shots, even the night, time exposures came out great. I would recommend this tripod to anyone wanting a compact yet great functioning tripod. They don't make them like this anymore!Read full review

This tripod is really something! It looked old but worked perfect. I reaffirmed the craftmanship of Germany!
